TC Renegade range report

Got the 54 renegade out today. Muley gave me some patches and goex 2f powder and so I worked up a good solid load today of 90gr Goex 2f, .015" patch, .530" round ball. I also used a .018" as a buffer which helped with the torn patch issue I've had. I will get some wads next time for the 54 and that should end my patch problems!

80gr Didn't shoot bad at all, but that 90gr charge with the buffer patch did wonderful at 60 yards. Need to make some sight adjustments and practice some more before i set the sights in their final position and screw them down.

80gr 2F Goex, Not bad bad, but not good IMO.

90gr with .015" patch and a .018 patch used as a buffer to protect the main patch. I should'a stopped after shot 4 as the bore was getting tight.

Left: .015" patch with 80gr Goex 2f. Right: .015" patch with 90gr Goex and protected with a buffer patch. A big improvement and once i buy some .54cal wads, the patches should look pristine.

That'll do nicely. That is a good shooting load for that rifle.

nice shooting.. that is a good load.

Looks like you are good to go! That is great shooting for sure.

Hey MD...what do you mean by a "buffer" patch? Are you shooting 2 patches?

(I'm a non-roundball shooter, trying to learn about them :))

well track of the wolf had 1000 28 guage wads for only $11 and some change shipped. I ordered a package of them and they should do the job.

What I do is pour the powder down the bore and then take a .018" patch and just push that on top of the powder and then load up my .530" ball wrapped in a .015" patch. The .018" patch sort of acts like a wad and helps protect the thinner patch that wraps the ball.

WV Hunter - what MD did was improvise using an .018" patch pushed down over the barrel because he was experimenting. The normal way to 'buffer' a load is to use a round felt patch of the same bore size. This protects the main patch (the one around the ball) from being burned from the hot gases and providing a better gas seal.

Gotcha...thanks guys! :D
