Renegade questions
I've been pondering the idea of a Renegade. I've been thinking about taking up shooting heavy conicals, but not totally sure. I've looked around and can't find any Renegades close to me. So I've started looking online. I have a few questions.
What would be a good price for an unfired, NIB percussion Renegade? If I primarily plan to shoot conicals and don't have much interest in shooting PRB at this point, would I be better to have a 1 in 48 twist barrel, or a 1 in 28 from Green Mtn? If I'm going to have to order something from the internet, I'm contemplating just using ebay, gunbroker, etc. and piecing one together to be what I want, so this would give me some different options for caliber and twist. Any suggestions? |
IMO, buy a stock off ebay, refinish it and then buy the GMB if you want to shoot conicals. May check out track of the wolf.com and look at their barrel blank selections and then have them fit it to a tc breech plug.

Not a bad idea. I hadn't thought of having TOTW build a barrel for it. Since they're only about 20 minutes from me, it might be a good option.

It might cost you a bit more but IMO it will be darn well worth it in the end. Plus you can have it cut to your preferred length. That custom barrel on my renegade is 2" longer but LIGHTER in weight than the factory barrel thats only 26" length.

Probably would be a little more, but then it looks like a stock on ebay is under $50, and misc. metal parts are pretty cheap as well. I could probably do the entire gun with custom barrel for under $500.

You will not want a 1-48 twist to shoot long heavy conicals. A GM-LRH drop in will work for you if you can find one... This one of mine... And this the other... Both barrels a 15/16" across the flats and dropped into a 1" barrel channel of the Renegade - works great. These things shoot the .503-460 grain Bull Shop Conical - GREAT |
I get great accuracy big those big 454gr Lee conicals i cast up. Extremely great accuracy actually.

I have a renegade with gr Mt 1:28 45 barrel I might part with
|
Sabotloader, I really like yours with the stainless barrel and recoil pad. That's almost exactly what I'm looking for.
Is it correct that for conicals a .45 would be better than a 50? My thought is that the .45 would have a lot more options? |
Buying a stock and then a drop in GMB LRH barrel in .50 cal is the way to go for strictly shooting conicals.they even market a 21" carbine barrel, if weight is a concern.
