My breach plug it stuck, solutions?
Well, I just got back from the range after sighting in the scopes on both my ML' s, and wouldn' t you know it, the stinkin' breach plug on my DISC is siezed! Try as I might I just cannot get it break loose. I' ve had this problem before using the Knight breach plug grease (the green stuff), so I decided to try some teflon thread tape this time which didn' t work.
I' ve tried tapping the plug removal tool to see if it' ll loosen it, which it hasn' t, and I don' t want to whack it too hard for fear of messing up my scope. Does anybody have any suggestions as to things I might try to loosen this beast? I know one thing if for sure, I' m getting sick and tired of the Knight breach plug. I have half a mind to call Knight and ask them why the didn' t make the breach plug tool a little longer and why it doesn' t have a hex head machined into the opposite end so one can use normal tools to remove the breach plug, instead of dorking around with a little bar that provides no leverage. I' m going to start saving for an Omega, and trade or sell the DISC. T/C' s engineers actually used their brains when they designed the Encore/Omega breach plug system. Thanks, Mike |

Here is a trick I used once, try putting some lubricant down the barrel.I used G-96 gun treatment overnight and the next morning the plug came right out.

I' m going to start saving for an Omega, and trade or sell the DISC. T/C' s engineers actually used their brains when they designed the Encore/Omega breach plug system. I use the anti-seize paste from TC, but that doesn' t always work. I called TC, and they recommended using " Gorilla Grease" to lube the threads of the breech and breech plug. I haven' t tried that yet though..... They also sent me a newer modified breech plug, whereas the inside of the breech plug is " hollowed out" to accept powder. Kindest Regards, -Will in Maryland |

Plug the nipple hole & pour a 3-4 ounces of penetrating oil down the bore. Take the wifey' s hair dryer & put it on hot in front of the breech for around 5 minutes. Leave the barrel pointed upwards. Let it sit overnite. Heat the breech area again in the morning then turn the breechplug removing tool clockwise (tighten) with a little G-force. Now use the ol' G-force in reverse (to loosen).
It' s better to triple-towel wrap the barrel in a vise to get better torque when tightening & loosening. Gorilla grease works great. The secret to removing breechplugs after 20 shots is to bring the removing tool to the range. Right after the last shot' s been fired (while the barrel' s hot) loosen the breechplug. |
RE: My breach plug it stuck, solutions?
If you were shooting the T-7 it is known for causing the breech plug to freeze.Using it the encore will freeze up too.How I remedy this is using the Gorlia greese,it works great, never had a breech plug to freeze up using the knight grease untill I shot the T-7 in one.
Shot 60 rounds thursday without a problem,I check my breech plug every 10 shots anymore to make sure its not going to be a problem.Try the gorlia grease and work it inthe threads with your fingers it is a purple color, works for me.If you shoot a lot of shots the next problem is the primer hole gets fouled after about 20 shots, what I do there is carry some q-tips in my box and clean the primer hole with one of them after every 20 shots, then shoot a primer to make sure I didn' t stop up the flash hole cleaning it. |

RE: My breach plug it stuck, solutions?
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I finally got the breach plug to break loose after trying the oil in the barrel trick, but it was still a real pain and took a LOT of torque to loosen it. The strange thing is, once it loosened up it came out very easily, and the teflon tape (which stayed in the barrel threads and not with the breech plug) sealed the threads well enough to prevent any greasy powder gunk from getting into the threads. The breach plug threads were completely clean.
I noticed that a couple of you guys suggested trying " Gorrilla Grease" on the breach plug, and researching the topic of seized plugs I' ve found even more references to it. But I' ve never seen it before and no one' s mentioned where to get it. Is this something I can get in an auto parts store? Or where else? Thanks, Mike |
RE: My breach plug it stuck, solutions?
Gorilla Grease can be found in most hunting/sports stores in the blackpowder department. You can also go to your nearest big auto parts store & ask for high temperature anti-seize compound. Put it on all the threads.... then only hand-tighten it. If the threads are not easy turning, use the provided wrench until it stops -- then back it off a tad... something like from 12 noon to 10am.

RE: My breach plug it stuck, solutions?
Driftrider ,
I use Gorilla Grease religiously after every cleaning , and never had a plug sieze . The important thing to remember is to coat ALL of the threads thoroughly each time . If you can find a tap in the appropriate thread pitch try cleaning your threads very lightly between uses . Do not recut the threads , just use the tap to lightly scrape out the residue . |
RE: My breach plug it stuck, solutions?
I had the same problem with my Traditions. I called the triple 7 people and they suggested using high temp wheel bearing grease, the white stuff. Works great!!!!
