I had followed the posters on the use of blackhorn 209 and noticed that some do swab. And that was why I tried it. So its good to hear other do/have tried it too.

You may find the bullet and sabot combo might effect the POI shift, in regards to clean or fouled bore.

My experience with of shooting the 250gr TEZ, for instance, I could not get a consistent clean bore first shot. Not only was the first shot 3-4" higher at 100 yds on a clean bore compared to fouled bore, I was also experiencing left or right shifts in POI.

Now shooting the .430 XTP's, both 240 and 300gr, I do not get any POI change from clean to fouled!

cayugad I have played a little with the BH just as you did. I found that when I swabbed my Pro Hunter my groups were wide open at 100 yards, but much better when I didn't swab. That was with 120 gr of BH and TMZ in 290 gr. I tried the same test in my Mountaineer and found a little different result with 120 gr of BH and 300 gr Lehigh with a orange sabot, when swabbing I was consistently high 4 inches and about an inch to the left plus my group was closer to an 1 3/4. With the same load on a fouled barrel, one shot, with the same load, I was 2 inches high a 100 and less than inch group. This is how I wanted the gun sighted in so I did not touch it. I have found that about the 3 or 4th shot the loading gets pretty hard to get the bullet started but after that initial couple of inches, it is still tight but smooth on down to the charge.

onetohunt.. that is what I was experiencing today. The first couple inches were near impossible to get the sabot into, but once past that small area, they loaded normal. Stiff mind you, but normal. Next time I want to try the HPH 24 like suggested. And no swabbing.

I wonder what the results would be if you swabbed only the first six inches of the bore.

That is an excellent idea. I might just have to try that. It works using APP powder.

As Jon said, no need to swab when using BH209.very few rifles require the use of a MMP-12 sabot.give the MMP-24 or the smooth harvesters a try and you loading problems will disappear, as will the need to swab.

So your saying the tightest fitting sabot is not always the best with Black Horn 209? Interesting. Although I will say, those EZ load Harvester sabots were just that ... too easy to load.
