Dream Season Peep Sight
 

Initially a scope was mounted on this rifle, and it seemed to be a decent shooter, but i had a notion the comb of the stock would fit my face nicely, if iron sights were used. Bein's how my eyes cannot focus so very good on iron sights, a peep sight was very much required. So eventually an FP sight was mounted. In case it was necessary, the bottom of the sliding arm was beveled to clear the stock. The factory sight bushing was replaced with the largest size available.













The rifle was taken to the hills this morning so to adjust the sight. A few shots were taken at 25 or so yard, and a move was made to 100 yard where more shots and more adjustments were made. It was about 17 degrees at 4700' when the shooting started, and it was about 30 degrees when we quit. The Dream Season was loaded with 300g Deep Curl, 100g BH209, crush rib sabot, and W209 primer.

The X7 with factory iron sights came with, and was loaded with 260g Partition, 100g BH209 , crush rib sabot, and W209 primer.

The last three shot from each rifle at 100 yard are pictured. The 3 lowest holes were made by the X7.

It sure looks as though that works just fine Ron. I've used forward mounted peeps like that before and had very good success so long as the aperture was large enough. It makes for a trim package and fast handling sight picture. Good shooting.

Have you by any chance tried the 270 grain .429 Deep Curl Soft Points in your X7? I just ordered two boxes to play with from Grafs, along with Harvester smooth green sabots.

In past year, i have used the 270g Deep Curl in an X7 that had a scope mounted. It really really put the hurt on deer. Am not sure, but i think this rifle with the peep sight, lands them 270g bullet low. There is no moving this peep any higher; it is as high as it can go right now. However, you can 'know', the 270g bullet is one very fine deer smucker.

This sight location isn't really 'forward' so very much. It might be 5/8" ahead of where the X7 sight would be, when mounted in the rear holes. It is further away from the front sight than the X7 peep is. Initially it was mounted using the 2 rear holes, but that placed the peep hole above the falling block. It seemed OK there. I am near positive it would have worked just fine mounted in the rear holes. During the night i awoke and thought about possible interference loading/unloading primer, and a chance for the left/right adjustment screw becoming fouled.
