Boy this one really got to me....right after My Lab Passed I saw that there has been a advertisement from (NY Labrador Retriver Breeders) Find Your Puppy, Can I Be The One on all the pages.
This got me Sad but Looking, Connie and I are Looking but we want the ONE. We'll have a New Lab Pup by Spring, I cant go shooting as My OL Buddy used to be there with me as I check the Targets, and all the rest. The worst part it my truck smells like him everytime I get in, I can see him sitting there by me.
But the Prices the NY Lab Breeders Charge for Puppies is CRAZY! I found a couple that I'd take home in a second but there almost $3,000.00 I think this is going a bit too far. How about you?

Can't help you with that dilemma Breechplug. Other than two pure bred (but not registered) Beagles, every dog I've ever had was a mutt of some kind.

My big brown hairy "Tucker" died from infection after tangling with some unknown critter the week after Hurricane Katrina. I had rescued his tick infected hide as a pup nine years earlier from a trash pile aside a logging road. His parentage was unknown but his build was something like a Husky.

Picked up my current gal, "Mildew" from the New Orleans animal shelter two months after Katrina. She has a good bit of Catahoula Cur in her, but sure isn't pure bred, even though she believes she's some sort of royalty. Maybe because my wife treats her that way.

But Connie needs a Big OL Kind Hearted Lad that will Protect Her and still be Loyal to Me:) I need to find that perfect one again, even if he does Love Her a Tad bit more than me.

He was one big Bad A$$ Loveable Lab, he had some Neflounland in him that gave hime his size as most labs do.
But he also had a keen eye, he could see the target when I shot and look at me.....he'd know if it was good or not befor I did. If it was a good target he'd follow me to it, if it was bad he'd just lay there and wait for the Bitchen.

That sounds a little high, but then for a good papered dog, that might be the going price out where you live. Around me they go for about $1200.00.

Rescue dogs make good pets. I almost took a male pit bull home with me one afternoon. It was all I could do to talk myself out of it.

Breechplug, hopefully maybe one of the forum readers thar live closer to you might know of someone with pups now or in near future. I also agree that is a lot of money. I'm sure you will find a new buddy and companion when the time is right.

For a Lab with first shots and dew claws removed and papers go for around $400-$600 around here. We've been looking but the ones for sale are mostly all Brown and Blonde, the Blacks go quick.
Im sure there's some good rescue dogs around at the SPCA but we need a good registered one with a good bloodline. Once you own a black lab it's awful hard to ever change because there such good dogs, smart, loving, loyal and full of Vinegar.
Also Dave there's a bunch of breeders where I live since Im in the country, but most of the littlers are spoken for were just waiting for the next. Also we'd rather buy from people who have labs at home and breed them then from a Breeder, the home bred one's get more attention and love, the Big Breeders seem to only care about the $$$$$
My dogs name AKC Registered was (Sabbath Bowhunter Brown) Were trying to think of a good name for our next, Im kinda thinking of mabey (Camo) anyone have a good name for a Black Lab?

I have to agree. Once you have a Labrador it's hard to go to a different breed of dog. I do like black Labradors although I had a yellow Labrador once. She was the sweetest dog you ever met. Very smart, and a real Velcro dog. She stuck to you like Velcro. She loved kids, and was just the most well behaved dog I ever had. So I would take a black Labrador or a Yellow. I seriously have considered a German Short Hair Pointer. Having bad knees now, I don't walk as fast anymore and a pointing dog would allow me to grouse hunt still.

I am not trying to push a pound dog. And I understand the desire of a purebred dog. I have had pound dogs, but they were always purebreds that someone gave up. I got my Yellow Lab puppy from a pound, a English Pointer adult female that was just a great pheasant dog, and a Black Labrador Male that was just a great dog (although it hated my ex wife.. I should have kept the dog and got rid of her. At least the dog behaved and was over joyed when I would come home from work.. ).

I sure hope you can find a dog that will help fill that void in your life. From what you've told us.. your a dog man. And you need a dog to function. So keep looking.
