Going to an auction tomorrow!

The annual sporting goods auction, some unusual stuff.
Generally this is the place antique dealers w/in a few hundred miles purchase their stock; every so often there is a themed auction such as this one. In a few weeks it's Petrolania-gasoline advertising & memorabilia. Nice people running it, great mac & cheese, and generally an enjoyable time.

There are a few items I'm interested in, ML of course, we'll see; prices here tend to be high or low w/ very little middle depending upon the audience.

Some interesting old guns on there. Looks like a good auction for a guy that collects old fishing lures, too.

3 Seasons

There are some nice looking sporterized military rifles there. Sporterizing mil rifles used to ruin their value. I believe that given that this is no longer done, the modified rifles will begin to go up in value in the future.

Also, listed with the Model 70 300 mag is a lever action that looks like an old Ithaca single shot 22. These were designed to look like lever guns, but they are actually a tilting block like an old Martini rifle. You should be able to get that one wholesale for about 50 bucks. There is little or no collector value today, but it is a unique and fun old rifle.

If your looking for an older model gun, it looks like the place to be. That half body wall deer mount kills me. Maybe you should bid on that.

Well, out of it all I ended up with a CVA plainsman .50 which, upon closer inspection, is actually new and unfired. I don't know much about CVAs but I did have their Hawken once, briefly-shot great! I've also coveted my buddy's Mountain Rifle he's had since new. We'll see.

What did catch my eye was the Savage take-down .30-.30 & there were three. The one I was most interested in, of course, sold for $1100 to the owner of our local gunshop.

I also learned that a Miroku double barrel commands a fairly high price vs a Stevens -what a beauty that was!
Range session to follow...

Oh man the Plainsman is an awesome shooter!!

70gr Goex 3f, 348 or 405gr Powerbelts would cut holes at 100 yards in the Plainsman i had!
