Antique Browning

Anyone ever watch the TV Show "American Guns" ?? I love it!

But anyway the point of the post.. They did an antique brown barrel on a double barrel shot gun, stripped it to bare metal and then put it into a box with coffee grounds, dampened it and then buried the barrel and covered it over, After a few days the barrel had a great looking brownish patina on it, very good looking.

After i browned my Renegade barrel I figured, what the heck, why not give this trick a try and see if I can add just a little more personality to it? I've had it in the coffee grounds for 3 days now and its leaving a real nice layer of rust on it that should buff down nicely with steel wool and really make it pop once its oiled.

I'll get some good pictures when the rifle is together, got a new 14mp camera and the thing takes amazing pictures, remember the sunset pic? That was taken with the new camera.

What time period is "antique"???

I've browned gun barrels, they didn't use coffee grounds that I know of in the 1700s...
When were they used???

back then they naturally rusted from use. None of us are out in the woods 24-7 so we got to make our own. We'll see how it looks after a couple more days.

Oh I forgot, i am using the expensive high grade Starbucks coffee as well. Medium roast :)

That is interesting, I never heard of that before. If its not to much trouble could you do a piece of bare clean metal and picture post the results after you retrieve your gun?

You can brown a gun by removing all the oil from alcohol and wiping it down with urine each day...Anything acetic will help it rust...

I tried urine once, it didn't do anything other than make me drink a lot of water for a few days to fill up a bottle.

Lemoyne, I will see what i have in the shop and give it a test and post it.

Ever tried chlorine??? Gives a good look as well...
