CVA BH209 Plug
Must be the day for breech plugs LOL.
I installed the new CVA BH209 plug in the Wolf today as i haven't tested them yet. Installation was easy as screwing it in and then seating it with the provided tool. Adjusted my head space out .012" with the CCI 209 Magnum primers and as usual, zero blow by. Breech threads were dry and clean with no sign of blow by. Primer pocket was obviously clean as well. One huge difference i noticed after i shot 7 rounds was that i only found one granule of BH209 in the bore that looked unburnt. Time for cleaning, i ran one snug fitting cloth both down the bore and typically with the old flat style plug, I would find some thicker build up which required a little more scrubbing in that area. Today that build up was zero. Accuracy of the Wolf was outstanding as usual, but my POI did change to about 1.5" low and few inches to the right. Not a drastic change, but enough to throw you off if you were to just install the plug and go hunting. Cleaning the hollowed out area was easy with some hot water and my nylon breech plug brush, it actually came out extremely easy with no hard scrubbing needed. So in the end, it fired just like with the original plug but cleaner in the bore towards the face of the plug. |
CVA BH209 plug
I pick up one for the new Optima no problems no mis-fires |
Wish they made one for my kodiak lol.
|
Okay, i ran 2 dry patches and then one wet patch and it was finished! Awesome. Only 7 shots but still a huge improvement with cleaning.
|
Well that is nice when the rifle is that easy to clean... and accurate too. What more could you want.

The CVA BH209 QRBP is almost an exact dimensional copy of the Omega breech plug. As such it certainly will work excellently igniting BH. It is hard for me to imagine any one ever having a delay or fail to fire whilst using this plug. This plug without doubt will work. However.
However, i do have an issue with the design of this plug. The flame channel is much too short. They made the flame channel too short. It wasn't necessary. My testing in sub-zero weather has shown to me without any doubt, that the flame channel doesn't need to be so short. Neither one of these plug will ever fail to ignite BH. Their flame channel is longer than the BH209 CVA plug. In my mind, the perfect QRBP would locate the flash hole half as far from the end of the plug as CVA placed it. This 'perfect' QRBP would be able to absorb more flame channel plugging carbon, before a required cleaning, and would be every bit as reliable as the plug CVA is selling. With the longer flame channel the 1/8" diameter is just about perfect, however the shorter flame channel of the plug CVA is selling, can benefit by being 5/32" diameter. Yes, yes, this is just one old carpenter' opinion. |

Me too. Kodiaks are long forgotten.
We both use Pyro, RS and Pellets, no need for BH or a different BP. Iike the way Pyro works and dont mind a little cleaning. I wish My Accura's (3) would have had the QRBP but I can live without it, Im about as close as one can be to getting a Accura V2 just because, or mabey a Optima. But being so used to the style of the Accura Im afraid I may not get used to the Optima.....how about you MD, is it hard for you to switch from one to the other? Either way Im still staying with Pyro. (BP) |
i prefer the Optima myself. The Accura MR however might change my mind.

The kodiak pro breech plug ignites Bh209 as long as the BP flash channel is kept clean.i know of several people who live in cold climates that have no problems with that rifles BP. all i shoot in my Triumph and kodiak pro is BH209 and a BH209 specific plug would be a nice feature.i can always have Ron upgrade it if necessary also.
I've spent hundreds, possibly and probably Thousands of hours of range and field time knowing pyro and what it will do in all My MLer's. When I pick up and fire any of My MLer's Im confident in my shot, it would be too much for me to change and do this all over again. It may seem simple and may be, but after all these years of doing it with Pyro I just cant make the switch. Heck I wont even try T-7 and it's Pyro, it was hard enough going from Goex to Pyro:biggrin: My Kodiak Pro was only shot a few times then Boxed, still as new as can be, I gave the wife the Kodiak Mag. It sits with My Accura New in the Box and a CVA Stag Horn New in the Box. I usually buy 2 of them when I get em in case something goes worng with one during Hunting Season so I have a backup. I also retired My CVA HUnterbolt Mag ever since I bought My Accura's. (BP) |
I shot pyrodex for years in my renegade and still do in my knight wolverine with conical bullets.

Got my new 209 plug from cva in the mail yesterday. Can't wait to try it out in the Wolf. Why do they send a wrench when you don't get one with the new rifle. Will it be needed?
|
The wrench is needed to fit the plug to your rifle. You don't get the wrench with a new rifle because it was fitted at the factory. You may not be able to completely close the action without using the wrench. You may not be able to cock the hammer without using the wrench. Once the wrench is used, and the job is done correctly, you never need to use it again.
|
Thanks for the clarification on that. I have not tried to install the plug yet.
|
I believe you are to install the plug the first time using the wrench. You install the plug and firm it up as snug as you can with the wrench and your hands. Then loosen the plug with the wrench and afterward use the plug just as you normally would - no wrench.
I think the wrench is to apply enough force to fit the seal at the end of the plug to the barrel. Once that seal is established, it's finger operation from then on. |

Have'nt seen the new Accura Mountain Rifle yet......but I did look on Cabela's at the sales on there MLer's. I did see they have the Optima SS/Realtree for $299, not a bad price, but I see it does'nt come with any Open Sights??? OK I can see that same like a Scope but what about those that Cant Use a Scope for MLing?? Also it does'nt say if the SS Barrel is a (Bergara) is it?? Also NO Way am I going to spend the kind of money they want for a new Accura V2 SS/Camo when I have a still Brand New Accura V1 SS/Camo Un-Opened in the Box that I only paid $349 for.....they have to be Crazy to want that much more for one with a QRBP and some Rubber on the Stock and Forearm, seems like I got the better of the Deal with my Accura V1's (BP) |
Heres some Pics of the BH209 plug from today. 9 shots and you can see a lil bit of carbon i cleaned out of the plug after i was finished shooting.
![]() ![]() ![]() Top shot was with the 270gr Harvester Sabertooth bullets, I took 5 shots and the first was the only one to show up on target LOL. Middle shots were 3 shots with the 250gr Powerbelt Aerolites and 100gr BH209. It looks like 2 shots but to me, that shot farthest to the right looks smudged out so its real hard to tell. Bottom 2 shots were the 300gr Powerbelt Aerolites, I want to try these again as they are accurate in this Wolf. 160 yards ![]() |
