Shot 777 for the first time
This topic has probly been beat to death. but living in a small town in Az its kind of hard to get any blackpowder stuff. out local gun shop sells pyrodex and a few other things. But I was able to get some 777 for the first time and all I can say is WOW. what have I been missing. the most impressing thing was when I shot it thru a chrono.

RE: Shot 777 for the first time
I haven' t seen the " needs less cleaning" benefit. After 3 shots, I HAVE to clean my Renegade because that crud ring that builds up where my powder meets my bullet gets too high. If I don' t do it then, my cleaning jag will get stuck in the barrel. I didn' t have that problem with Pyrodex or Clear Shot. I could go 6 or 7 shots before I had to clean because my bullet wouldn' t load easily. It does clean extremely easily though. And I do like the increased velocity. I haven' t shot it through a chrono, but my shoulder knows it' s got more punch than anything else out there. It feels more like a centerfire rifle than a smoke pole being shot. It doesn' t " push" harder and smoke up really bad if you load it too hot, it stomps a mudhole in your a$$. It' s fun to shoot.

Here are some of the numbers I got thru the chrono. I was using a 200 grain XTP with a sabot.
First load. 100 grains pyro 200 grain xtp sabot.
1. 1921 fps
2. 1919 fps
3. 1936 fps
= 5776 divided by 3 shots = 1925.333 fps
second load 90 grains 777 ( 10 grains less than pryro load) 200 grain xtp sabot.
1. 2041 fps
2. 2015 fps
3. 2035 fps
= 6071 divided by 3 shots = 2030.333 fps
105 fps faster and 10 grains less powder. Plus clean up was a breeze. as far as the gun I was shooting my wifes CVA Hunterbolt Mag 26" barrel in .45 cal.

I tried Triple Seven for the first time today. Nothing to complain about. 80 grs of 777 seemed to equal 100 grs of Pyrodex. I shot three different bp rifles with good results in all three. No crud ring that others have mentioned. No stink and easy clean up. I like it!

I shot a 4-shot clover at ~60yds (peep sighted) with (3) T7 pellets (oop, yes, i know that exceeds the recc. dosage, see my other post) behind a 295Gr powerbelt in my TC encore. Cleanup was scentfree but residue seemed greater than with pyrodex. Id suggest you decide for yourself if 3 pellets are safe in your rifle. I am more than confident it doesnt bother my Encore
