One reason would be that in my experience, CCIm primers tend to leave more residue/fouling that an STS primer. Not a big deal on a hunt, more so at the range. A hotter primer would also likely erode the flash channel faster.

I don't get sub-zero temps in VA, but I've never had a problem with the STS primers igniting BH209. Easier for me to find at stores too.

Wow, thanks BP first double rack I've ever seen. :guiness:

I was getting worried.........at least someone out there appreciates a good rack when they see one, I know Muleys dont grow Brow Tines but did you see the abnormal tines growing where the brow tines should be, how about the mass of that rack:busted:

Using a standard shotgun primer isn't what i consider as 'taking a chance', when they work 100% of the time for a year, then another, and then yet another.......................... Standard primer have ignited BH in the TC rifle, as long as BH has been available. Easily hundreds and hundreds of shots. Once the plug were modified in the CVA rifle, standard shotgun primer have ignited BH without a delay, thousands of times. These rifle have been tested in conditions no sane hunter would endure.

In my Knight rifles, no magnum primer fits as nicely as W209 primer. It is near mandatory to use W209 in them rifle. In the TC rifle here, nothing fits better than W209 primer. The CVA rifles and breech plug, in this house, are adjusted to use STS primer, and them magnum primer won't fit.

Using standard shotgun primer, is not 'taking a chance'.

'Taking a chance' is passing a snow plow in a storm, driving after drinking, writing a check with insufficient funds, adding air to a slow leaking tire, telling a fib, purchasing a lottery ticket....................

If one cannot find magnum primer locally; one needn't worry needlessly; they are not needed.

we've already seen tcs and knights hang firing with these standard primers so again, its not worth the chance. I'll take the hottest primer i can get.

No, we haven't.

I have used Winchester and Remington STS primers without any problem with Blackhorn 209, but from advice from a member of this forum I have been wanting to try the CCI Mag primers. I am just happy to finally find some and I am anxious to try them with Blackhorn 209.
