Liquid Gun Blue

I just got back from Bass Pro Shops and when I was there I picked up some G96 Brand Liquid Gun Blue. I use to use Hoppe's gun blue but they don't make it anymore and I am not happy with Birchwood Casey Gun Blue so I thought I would give this stuff a try. I'll let you know how it works.

I haven't used the G96 stuff pluckit. I agree with you on the Birchwood Casey stuff. Tried it years ago and was not impressed. I

have a bottle of Brownells Formula 44/40 Instant Gun Blue that I use for small touch ups and to blue sights and such. It works very well for me on small spots. But I haven't tried it on anything large like an entire trigger guard or barrel.

I tried some cold gun blue many many moons ago. I dont even know the brand and I didnt like the way it turned out, just gave up on the cold stuff.

Yes, let us know how the G96 works. I've used BC and if you follow the directions it works great on small parts. Big items though (barrels) it is hard to get a uniform finish.

The only thing I can tell you is "I miss my Hoppe's"

I guess I'll have to order some Van's Gun Blue off of the internet and try that. Has anyone ever tried it?

I've used Van's to touch up a Sako Forester barrel with pretty good results. Could not completely match the deep blue of the Sako barrel but was not really expecting to. But it is holding up well. Follow the online instructions (degrease, heat up the metal with a blow dryer, etc.) and you should be fairly happy.

It doesn't look good but it helps protect the barrel.

I do not use regular blue off, I lay it in Evapo Rust it takes off all rust and bluing even in the nocks and crannies and pits. You can buy it in the auto parts store it works good on cleaning up old engines also.
