Another stock refinish

Ok not a muzzy but this is my 3rd centerfire stock i refinished this month. This one is for Muleys .270 Rem700.
Before,

We talked a bit about finish on it and to my surprise it had a beautiful, natural dark walnut color with no stain. I originally thought i was going to stain it but after applying a test coat of Truoil, I didn't even bother with the stain, it just would have ruined it. I settled on a Satin finish which turned out beautiful and now i am applying a satin finish to the gloss black plastic nose cap and wrist area cap. The high gloss black trim looks great on a glossy stock, but looks like crap on a nice satin finish. It really blends together nicely for that smooth slick look to it.

I'll get some good pictures tomorrow when i take it outside in good light.

Matte finish on the nose cap. Originally was high gloss but looked extremely cheap when i applied the satin finish to the stock. This looks so great in person, like it was meant to be for this stock.

Bad picture, makes the stock look lighter than it really is.

Not a real good picture but it does show the natural color of the wood a lot better than the other pics.

The cap here was also prepped with a matte finish to match the nose cap.

She was fun to refinish and i think came out looking perfect, maybe better than when it was New. Hard to tell with these pics but we'll see how tomorrows pictures come out :happy0001:

Looks real good! we owned a refinishing shop for about 20 years and I can tell you that you know what your doing!
A great way to remove smaller dents is to stip the finish and then lay a damp rag over the dent and take a hot iron and press it on the area you want to raise up...takes practice knowing just how long to do this.

Very nice.

Looks like you did a great job. I refinished the stock on my sons .243 a few years ago. it turned out real good but the areas with the checking were a little difficult to work on.

I know you can buy spray cans of speckle paint. My wife had some for crafting.

See what i mean about the matte finish on the black? Looks much classier and cleaner.
