Anyone have experience
With an Austin Halleck Mountain rifle? From what info I can gather I have a crack at getting one in .50 cal. I believe it has a 1:66 twist rate. Any additional info appreciated.
Searching on the net I see some were made in Provo, Utah and some in Weston, MO. Any quality issues at either place? |

its a good sidelock. Traditions actually took over the design for a while. When the company was closing down they had them on sale for around $250.

Austin and Halleck Mountain rifle has a maple halfstock with satin finish. Has 3 1/4" drop and 13 1/2" trigger pull. Round ball barrel, .50 caliber flint, browned, octagon with 1"across flats. 8 lands and grooves. Has a 1 in 66"twist. Hook breech assembly. Front sight is .350 dovetail , steel base w/silver blade. Rear sight has .350 dovetail, buckhorn style. Uses 3/4" flint. Features browned steel furniture and double set triggers. Overall length 49". Recommended load is 70gr. FFG, .490 round ball, .015 patch. Made by Austin & Halleck/USA. |
Yes its definately a sidelock. If I can pick it up at a decent price, even if it doesn't shoot well, it would be a good barrel to rebore to a .54 round ball shooter. We'll see what happens when I put my offer in.
