I walked in to the usual greetings
from the local crowd
when I noticed a stranger
talking smack, talking real loud


I overheard him say
I hunt with a smokepole
and real blackpowder
the more he talked
the more he got louder and louder

he said I am a traditional guy
a modern inline
thats something I would never buy


when it comes to hunting
they got no place
he said as he leaned forward
to look me in the face


As matter of fact he said
I did give them a try
it actually turned me
into a centerfire kinda guy


I hunt hard
and I get oh so close
moving through the forest
gliding like a ghost


I couldnt take any more
I stopped to say one thing
as I headed to the door
and when I spoke
you could heard a pin hit the floor


I said mister I'm glad you get so close
we each have our skills
I might not be as good at stalking
but I still make my kills


and because I really care
here's some advice
I would like to share

if you practice more
if you practice enough
You'll be able to shoot further
it's not all that tough


as I drove off
I saw a jeep with a mule deer sticking out the back
strangest thing I ever saw
I big ol buck with no rack


oh well I thought
to each his own
to all a Merry Christmas
and I headed home
