Maxi -hunter update

if you read my posts over years you know i HATE maxi-hunter bullet for our hawkins 50 cal flintlocks.
but the MAXI-BALL is just best.

i was at range today with my brother.he also has t/c hawkins 50 cal. dad bought us one each when we were 11 years old back in 60s.

so he had 2 boxes of MAXI-HUNTERS,those awful bullets that you know i hate.
so, i said, bob why dont you use them up, they are no good.
shoot them up at target.
so he put in 80 grs of 2f and shot at 50 yds.
and shot, shot ,shot.
i took binos and could not believe what i saw .almost all touched each other.

UNREAL.i said, what the H.i was shocked and like someone thru water in my face.
i said,LET ME SEE YOUR PACK,i felt he was shooting the 370 MAXI-BALLS and not hunter.
i looked at pack and it said,350 MAXI-HUNTERS.
all my packs were 275 maxi-hunter.
so i laid the 350 gr next to 275 and next to 370 maxi-ball.
350 hunter was almost as long as 370 maxi-ball.

over years i said DONT USE MAXI-HUNTERS.i may have said DONT USE 275 MAXI-HUNTERS.
cant remember but i thought i would offer that you can use the 350 hunter and they will shoot well along with the 370 maxi-ball.

sooooooooo, 350 maxi-hunter and 370 maxi-ball are both fine for 1-48 twist muzzleloader.

Maybe that is what I found too.. the maxi hunters I tried were terrible for accuracy. But the maxi ball did fantastic.

X2, the maxi ball is all i used in the old Renegade!

that is why the 295 powerbelt shoots well in 1-48 twist ,its length is almost close to 370 maxi-ball length with plastic seal on.
i shot the 245 pb and it shot terrible in 1-48 twist .

so length /balance of bullet is critical.

nice to see you guys again.hope to be on here some.

Now that just goes to show you how ML are different. My friend and I have a T/C Hawken flinters that eat up the 275 gr maxihunters. Both these rifles shoot them very well and we have taken quite a few deer with them.

roundball used 275 gr and said they worked in his too.
over years i saw MANY hawkins that 275 shot all over paper and not 1 that shot them well.
in fact, groups were just awful.i never saw bullet shoot so bad as MAXI-HUNTER did in my 4 hawkins .
i had to call factory about it as they make them.
gunsmith at time ,15 years ago, where did time go said ,EVEN THO WE SELL THEM THEY ARE NO GOOD IN THE 1-48 TWIST.

he said,STAY WITH THE 370 MAXI-BALL WITH 80 GRS OF 2F.this is test load they use on most accurate when testing your barrels if you send them in.
he even sent me a copy of test he made with my barrel that i sent in with 2 others that shot 275 maxi-hunters so badly.
he said,NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR
3 BARRELS ,IT IS MAXI-HUNTER 275 .
you must use longer bullets in the 1-48 twist .
