I Phone?

Sounds like a neat ballistics program.

Chet, just out of curiosity, have you tried the .195 barnes at those ranges?

ronlaughlin 12-23-2011 12:42 PM

Chet, in my 50 caliber rifles i measure around 2200 ft/sec muzzle velocity using the 200g Shockwave/SST. In the 45 caliber rifle, i measure around 2300 ft/sec using the same bullet. I have tried 130g BH in the 50 caliber, but have stopped at 120g BH in the 45 caliber. It seems to me your calculations are some optimistic.

I agree Ron . I don't have a chrono so I use the barrel length bullet and powder charge and the program calculates everything. The velocity is probably closer to 2200 from what I've seen in posts by Tom the devil and you. But even if the velocity was reduced by 200 to 300 fps I don't think it would change the outcome a whole lot. I am using 130 gr Blackhorn. Maybe you could post the lee loader chart on here so I can check the difference in drop at 300 yards. I know the velocity and energy would still be more than enough. The drop would be the factor as far as my scope being on at that distance without personalizing the reticles to the load
Thanks Ron

This might help you a bit... even though it is shot from a 45 - the 50 velocities will be in the area...
