Trying to make a Knight Fail
 

The other day shooting my LK-II I had some strange no fires. Today I tried again to see if it would misfire but no such luck .. it behaved perfect. I shot a couple in a bulls eye to check it again then was shooting one gallon paint cans at 84 yards. I set one can upright in the snow then another on its side with the bottom facing me. Holding dead on that little LK-II was putting them 240 grain .430 XTPs in that can like nothing.

Then I broke out a LK-93 since it has the same action, to see if I could makle that one fail. That rifle's shoot card said sighted in for 35 yards. It wears a 1x32mm T.C Hawkens Scope so I set it up as a tree rifle. The card said 90 grains Pyrodex RS and XTP.

So since I had a new box of .430 240 grain XTP on the bench, I got some Pyrodex out and had a go at 35 yards with the 1 power scope.



The strange thing about that group. It started out hitting left. Climbed shot on shot. And then headed back to the bull in that horse shoe pattern. Why, I have no idea. But that would have been a good deer rifle for what I had planned for it.

I taped over the holes from the LK II so it would not confuse me. And I have to admit. That LK 93 shot very good with a one power scope. I was able to finally make the rifle fail on the ignition. If I left a two spent cap build up in the nose, it would strike the current cap but not fire it. So maybe that had something to do with the other rifle. I am not sure. Knock the old caps out of the nose and it fired perfect.

I also tried on the paint can at 84 yards with the 1x32mm scope. Now that was a bit more of a challenge then the other rifle. But if I held dead center it hit every time. A lot better then punching paper.

Weather conditions were.. 21 degrees, windy, snowing, over cast, just a lot of fun...

Good shooting Dave. I reckon you have a rifle set up for every conceivable hunting situation?

That's good stuff! I think you take just about any knight and put 90 or 100gr pyrodex and a .240 to .260 saboted bullet and have a real shooter. Everyone I know that has one shoots something in that range, and they all drive tacks. Both mine will cut one big hole at 50yds if I do my job.

Interesting about the spent caps left behind and not firing the cap. Didn't you say the last time that the cap went off, but the charge didn't go?

Did you try to reproduce the spent caps caught in the hammer??....You reported you found two....I found that very unteresting that somehting as simple as that would or could prevent the amount of spark making it down the flash channel. Granted I am new to this game of inlines - but not to percussion due to the amount of shotgunning I have done.

I think those caught copper caps was enough to not allow a good seal on that nipple.

I have rifles for all weather and all occasions. It makes it easier to decide what I want to shoot that day. :)

The LK-93 did not fire the cap, but it set the cap. Where the other day it fired the cap but not the powder. So I still can not say for certain that the rifle did not fire because of the caps. Where as today, once I removed the caps.. it fired perfect.

I have three of these LK rifles. And they sure are a sweet rifle to shoot and carry.
