Ardesa Deerhunter breech-plug??
 

I have a .50cal Ardesa Deerhunter(silwer barrel) rifle, I scoped it and now wonder if I can take the breech-plug out to help with cleaning?

I think it should be much easier than washing it the traditional way, maybe a few pull throughs with a .50 copper-brush and then a 2x4 cloth with oil...
Any help or ideas will be welcome:arms:

Forgot to mention that its a sidelock rifle and not an inline type:o

There probably are very few to none so far as people that know anything about that make of rifle. It appears to be much the same as the Traditions Deer Hunter imported to this country. I don't think many sidelocks are built with the idea of periodic removal of the breech plug in mind. Too many things could go wrong.

Looking at the parts diagram http://ardesa.com/en/uploaded/MANUAL...0percusion.pdf , I see no provision to remove a breech plug.

Its precisely the same rifle, I'm shooting sabots at the moment and are worrying a bit of plastic fouling. Thought that I could clean it better by pushing a brass-brush straight through.

Unless I had a serious blockage in the barrel I would not attempt to remove the breechplug on a sidelock wildeboer. That's a procedure that easily (and often) comes to grief. It's really not necessary for a good cleaning of a sidelock. Plastic fouling from sabots in a sidelock is highly unlikely. But if you suspect such flush the bore with boiling water. Any plastic in there will come loose and easily wipe out with a patch while the barrel is very hot. You may want to wear gloves to handle the barrel while doing this.

Thanks Semisane, I have heard about the fouling but never experienced it myself. I usually shoot patch-ball but are now trying with sabots- possible heavier hunting bullet.
With the scope mounted I"m scared of cleaning the rifle the tradional way(hot soapy water) and thought of a safer alternative.
