Nice deer and a great hunting story. One thing I have noticed over the years is that no matter if the deer I harvest is a buck or doe, with every step I take while dragging them them out of the woods seems to add about 2 pounds to the weight of the deer.
Start out dragging an 80 pound doe and end up feeling like an elephant.
Cheers on your deer Brother

Good read. I'm glad you let us in on your experience, and congrats on the big doe.

Thanks guys; it was a memorable hunt-but aren't they all which end favorably? I can still recall every second of my first archery buck...

Well, I had a motorcycle to reassemble & move before I could hang her in the garage, so she spent the night in the van which left me solo here early this morning unable to hoist her up onto the hooks.
While waiting on a buddy of mine I surfed the 'net, thanks for the comments.

She was a nice, mature doe but actually pales in comparison to the Big Mama( as we called her) that this very same friend shot several years ago who clocked just over 160 dressed. She had "neck loins", for want of a better description, bigger than some tenderloins I've seen, just amazing that deer.

The weather couldn't be more different here today with a chill NW wind w/ strong gusts & overcast. I think I'll head up the hill behind the house & try my luck today...

That is how it is done. Like I always try to convince the young guys, "focus on the nap, and the deer will take care of itself". Great story :D

Beware 3seasons. The deer of the Shire are not for mere mortals.

Congratulations. Good story.

I weighed a doe and buck at the butcher that I use 3 yrs ago. The doe was 143 and the buck was 185. Both field dressed and from lower OHIO. The spike this year was 120 and like someone else said that they gain weight while dragging. By the top of the hill I would swear he went 300.
