Are these guns really blow back free ?
The CVA rifles except for the Apex can easily be made blow back free. The firing pin bushing can be shimmed out to give the primer of your choice a 'crush', and henceforth the rifle will be blow back free if that primer is used. The STS primer seem to be very uniform compared to others, and thus is my primer of choice when i fit my rifles to a primer. Right or wrong, it seems to me, that the amount of blow back is mostly determined by primer fit. The first Omega here was nearly blow back free, but wasn't. The second Omega was blow back free iff one used W209 primer, but not if one used a shorter primer. The first Omega is now blow back free using STS primer, because the breech plug has been modified to slightly crush the STS when the rifle is put into battery. The Knight Elite that came here was fitted with a NFPJ plug and adapter. It was perfectly blow back free using W209 primer. Then along came the Knight Extreme, and when fit with the NFPJ plug and adapter, there was blow back, not bad blow back, but definitely blow back. One day due to something i read on these forum, i got the flash to switch bolts between these rifle, and see what happened. The Extreme using the bolt from the Elite is now perfectly blow back free when using W209 primer. After the switch, i found the Elite had blow back issues. The only way i could fix the problem was by making an NFPJ plug from a FPJ plug. By doing this i could control the overall length of plug and primer. Using this 'homemade' NFPJ plug the Elite is now perfectly blow back free when using W209 primer. The only powder i use is BH209. It is conceivable to me that if actual black powder were used, blow back might appear in some, if not all of these rifle. |
I used to own a TC Triumph but not anymore....My Comments on Blow Back. Big Deal you have some ir a little Blow Back, it's a MLer what do you expect. Blow Back Never Bothered Me, I owned some MLers where the Blowback would cover the Bottom of the Scope with it along with the Trigger Mech and anything else it could reach. But even though I had some Massive Blow Back the MLer still shoot good and took Deer, what else could I ask for, so I had to Clean it.
Personally Blow Back does'nt concern Me, as long as the MLer shoots good some Blow Back just takes a little more time to Clean. To Me Cleaning and Blow Back Means a DEER.....I get to go Home after the Hunt and Remmanise about the Hunt and Clean My MLer, it all goes one with each. I feel as if Todays MLer HUnters want it EASY, they want to Shoot there MLer and have it Clean Up Quick and FAST. There more Worried about How Fast there MLer Cleans up then what it Does when it takes a Deer. Just Shoot It, Clean It and Be Happy that you have a Deer, if your too Lazy to Clean your MLer and a little Blow Back is Your Biggest Concern then MLing is'nt for You, Stick with Your Rifle or Shotgun. (BP) Myself, i enjoy not having the bottom of the scope get burnt. Since it has been so easy for me to achieve zero blow back, i see no reason not to 'shoot' for it. If it were difficult to achieve zero blow back, i wouldn't bother, and would continue to shoot soot spewing muzzle loader rifles, not center fire, or shotgun. |

Geez, you seem to be all riled up over nothing here. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but them that wish for a clean clean shooting rifle should be entitled to their idea too. Since you are willing to live with blow back, it is good you're not too lazy to clean your rifle.

That was my thought as well. the world is continually advancing and this is an advancement for the Mler community. If a person uses an inline and is not a traditionalist, it is obvious, he wants the new technology and with it comes better shooting guns at longer ranges, cleaner, with little to no blow back. How does that make a person lazy? I use a calculator today, when I used to use pen and paper. I must be really lazy! |
I like a mess free action myself. The better the seal, the better consistency i will have with the gasses getting to the powder.
