Best double play of my life!!
 

Was out last night, for the last time this year. my how time flies. Anyway I was hunting with the mountaineer, on a cut cornfield and about 20minutes left of legal shooting light, I had a doe step out of the edge of a finger that runs directly behind my stand. She was way out there so, i picked up my range finder and ranged her at 237yds.

I sat for a second, to see if she was going to change directions. As you can figure, she did not. I thought what the hell, time to try out the ultimateslam. I aimed using the 250 yd. line and held 4" above the bottom of her chest and squeezed the trigger, BOOM flop!!!!

To my suprise a buck came out of nowhere and began to run towards me. Guess he couldn't tell where the shot came from. He stopped at 187yds. and turned broadside. By this time i had the powder in and the bullet started, I huuried and set the bullet home and it seemed to take forever to get the primer in correctly. Kept having to dump it back in my hand and try again, I am having a hard time with the bare primer bolt. He started to move and my heart was racing, i knew at any moment he was going to take off the a bat out of hell.

To my suprise he stayed put long enough to get the primer in and the bolt closed. I raised my gun to aim and my heart was thumping out of my chest. I took a second to relax and BOOM, He took 5 steps and folded up. I used my 200yd. line and it hit him a little high but, I will take 5 steps.

I was using the new Knight Mountaineer with 120gr. BH209 and a Hornady SST 250gr. with a crush rib sabot. He is a 11pt. slightly bigger than 140" and field dressed at 238lbs.

Nice buck, wheres the doe lol..

IMO - that is the one single stumble of the Mountaineer - whomever designed the front of the bolt to have rails to insert the primer in - probably did not do any cold weather hunters ant favors...

For my part I decided to to make a capper just for the intance you are talking about....





This summer I will make some better ones out of Teflon - but for now these work pretty well... instert the tool and primer in and lift up and out with the tool.

I have doubled with the encore with both doe over 200yds. So, yes I am positive it would have been the same outcome with either gun. And faster, I wouldn't have had to break out a short starter, with the qla and the primer would not have been an issue.

However 237yds. Is my furthest kill to date and the ultimateslam performed flawlessly.
