an shock from another forum
I was going to break my silence after my range session next week with my flinter, but i was reading on another forum. this guy painted an camo stock CVA HunterBolt Magnum 50cal metallic BLUE. I am saving up for an new 45cal m/ler. but I am thinking about making an offer on the gun just to redo the stock and resale to break even.
what should I offer this guy? I think you can pick those rifles up for around $100 or so used. |
I think I only paid $150 for mine New, that thing is one Heck of a Shooter wuth 150gr's. Why in the Heck would anyone paint there ML Stock Metalic Blue!
(BP) |
My opinion a $100. is too much for a used Hunterbolt.
My first muzzle loader was a Hunterbolt Mag. I paid $179. for it. 2 barrels 45 & 50 Cal. Camo stock & nickel barrels. blow back & trigger pull is terrorable. It will shoot decent groups though. |
figured I would offer $100 shipped as my top offer. still can't get over the blue paint job
|
Corey, why would you even concern yourself with the rifle??

I say I must likely won't get it guy was wanting $150 for it. oh, well my money goes to something better any way. ;)
at the rate i am gathering funds and just got an bill me later account. the 45cal accura i am wanting is still on table |
Now dont underestimate the Hunter Bolt Mag, i know it's a CVA....but that Baby can shoot a Mag Load of 150grs and is Accurate as Heck. I sold Mine to My Brother In Law and Wish I never did, I probably would'nt have used it much anymore because of My ACCURA, but for the Money It did'nt owe Me a Dime and took some Nice Deer for the Freezer for Me.
If you can get it for $100 I'd buy it, Im sure the Paing Job will come of with a little Laquer thinner. (BP) |
read a little more on that thread, he is going to keep it.
I have no problem with cva's. I have win apex aka cva kodiak, and love it. was going to just buy the thing, may have just put a few rounds down range. stripped the paint and sold it just to get my money back. |

If you want to Buy a Muzzy, wait untill after the Season ends, there will be some good Deals out there and even on some New Models. (BP) |
if you remove the three hex screws on the side of trigger mech and with flat head screw driver, gentle shimmy at the hammer area and down by trigger. you can open it and take the mech off. I had to do it recently. planning on being part of my detail cleaning, which i do every 6months.

Boy Corey, you must really hate the color blue to want to go through that hassle for nothing.

My dad got a .45 Kodiak camo/ss a while back. I brought it home one day to try some BH in it. The trigger was INSANE! I shot a 3" group at 50y and doubt I could do better with that trigger. Anyone else have that problem?

I am not an big fan of none hunting color stocks. black, wood, or even camo stocks are good. but the blue is awful, to each his own
if you brave enough you can take the trigger mech apart. |

rw You have to try Different Powder Amounts and Different Bulets, along with Different Primers to Find the Sweet Load that ML Likes, no 2 MLers are the same, it's up to You to find what She Likes. (BP) |
it was an last resort for me, i don't see why you could not do it. there are only an total of maybe 9 part in the mech. 4 pins, 1 trigger spring, trigger, hammer, hammer spring, and trigger guard/lever. the 3 hex head screws is all that holds it together. as long as you are careful when putting back together, everything is aligned. take your time while taking it apart and back together.

I have an win apex 45cal which is the same thing as the kodiak. I trigger fills great. I have shot very little bh209 in it. the blow back factor. i may need an new breech plug. try some spraying some oil up into the sear should be able to see it with an good flash light. maybe md's graphite treatment would work too
In the Summer it's the same way if I go after Wood Chucks, I shoot one or two, then Clean. I have never gone to the Range and just shot, then go again and shoot, or try this and shoot and keep shooting. Once I have My MLer all set up and Sighted in, it's ready for when I need it, one or two shots...it's not a Rifle or a Shotgun where you just go out and Blast away and shoot it a-lot. It's a One Shot, Seldome Shot, Shooting Machine. If I shoot any of My MLers more than 10 Times a Year and that includes checking to see if Im on and then Hunting, then that's a-lot. Im too busy through the Not Hunting season to just Paly around with My Mlers, as Much as I Love Them I know once there sighted in, I have the right bullett and powder combo that it likes and they shoot 1" groups what more could I ask for. So far this Hunting Season I Shot My Accura 4 times, I shot 3 times at a target befor the season to see if all was good, it was, then I shot a Big Doe. It's the same with My Bow, I do shoot it a little more to stay in the Game, but once I know what it likes it's good. If everything I shoot is Perfect Im not one to change anything, you can Buy this or that and try this and that, but once you find what everything likes why keep going....Nothing New will make You a Better Hunter if what You already have is Dead On. No New Powder, or Bullett is going to Bring Down that Trophy You have been after, it's your Skill and a-lot of Luck that will do it. If what you have is Dead why Try and Fix what's Not Broke. (BP) |
should of said with the trigger assembly on the barrel. normally, i just spray the assembly with an break free and rem oil. may switch to spray can kroil for trigger group lubing.
