cva electra
Let me introduce myself, i am an avid deer hunter that shoots an old sidekick muzzleloader, wolf online for the wife and just bought a new stainless electra from sportsman guide for 200 dollars. I was always sceptical of the whole battery operated ignition but couldn't pass on the price. I contacted cva to find out about parts and they said they make parts for seven years after it was discontinued. Im hooked on it and with a lithium battery i wont have problems during winter plus i think i will ask cva how much a spare circuit board would cost me just so i have one in case something happens to it after the stop making parts. 100 grains of rs powder and 250 grain tv shockwaves are giving me 1.5 inch groups and I've yet to play with different powder charges.

I have been tempted to purchase the exact same rifle. But it is not legal in our Muzzle-loader season. So it would be a target range toy for me. Not that I object to that. But I really don't need another rifle. I know one person that has one and he says it is an excellent shooter. Good luck with your rifle.

Well thankfully they never did the same in kansas. I like it enough im going to use it through rifle season.

There is two in Sportsman's Guide, one for $209 { camo} and one for $179.97 [marbled].
|
On friday morning they had the blued with black stock for 149.

I am not an inline man but my main concern has always been that with the electronic ignition it would be kind of like loading a conventional muzzle loader after it has been primed. I always prime after I load.

+1 I think that is why they are illegal in some states, mine included. Iowa lets about everything muzzle loading slide, except for the electra. |
Not legal in Colorado.
|
They ARE Legal here, but I dont like the part about it being Electronic and with a Battery, both can Fail at any time.
Here We can carry a Muzzleloader in a Motor Vehicle Loaded as long as there's NO CAP or PRIMER in it, the Primer Powder is removed from the Pan or the Battery is Not In an Electric ML. The other part I worry about with the Battery is as you use it the Battery gets Weaker and the Weaker the Battery the Weaker the Charge it sets off to Ignite the Powder, it's Never a Constant Even Ignition and that has to have a effect on Accuracy. I know that if I just change Primers My Accuracy will be affected, so with a New Battery your shots will be pretty constant, but as the Battery Weakens so will your Accuracy and your Point of Impact. |
just install a rechargeable battery and velcro a solar panel onto the forearm.

The only ML I use is My ACCURA Camo/SS I do have another SS/BK that I have only shot a couple of time and boxed back up too so I guess I still have 2 New ACCURAS. For Me My ACCURA is all that I need and after all we've been through and being it is so accurate and has never let Me down it'll be the one I continue to use untill it Disinigrates:mad1: |
Im really getting the traditional itch again. Local shop has a 54cal lyman trade rifle and that will shoot the 300gr REAL pretty good from what i can find. I just want one good solid sidelock and of course, i will keep the open sight optima as well as the wolf.

deleted : no longer want to be on the forum

Already had the GPR and i would just like a lighter weight scaled down version sidelock. The GPR-GPH are just added weight that i dont want to carry around in rough country next year LOL.

Glad you guys like the electra - Thats what matters most - Every time I hear about this gun I can see myself pushing the starter button on my grill 3-4-5 or more times trying to get it to light - Im just saying -

The local gun shop and target range was selling Electra Rifles a long time ago. In fact I saw my first Electra there. The owner was saying that for the target club, many were shooting the Electra and making a lot of other rifles look pretty foolish accuracy wise. I pulled the trigger on one, and I could see the advantage of the trigger. Plus the high quality barrels they have are just that.. high quality. I seriously considered getting the Stainless model from Sportsman's Guide but talked myself out of it. Although I am guessing that the rifle would be a good shooting rifle.
Although why I have no idea, but that electronic ignition still worries me. I have a lot of .. What if's. |
Can you tell me how you load that thing and not worry about it going off while loading if the battery is the arc for the spark or do you attach the battery after you load. They look neat and you do not need to fumble with primers and the expense. The battery thing and loading has always scared me from this gun.
That is one heck of a group by the way. |
I just bought an Electra also. Definitely can't beat the price. On backorder though. :(
Have to do some homework now. Looking for a good scope for it. Any recommendations on a good muzzleloader scope would be great. I'll do the footwork and yes, I know how to do a search. LOL! A header pointing in the right direction would be helpful though. Thanks! -NSTRUT |
The scope i have on mine has been passed from several different guns, its a baush & lomb elite 3000 4x12. This scope has never let me down.

I've always found that batteries and hunting gear are a bad deal... I don't want to rely on a battery for my gun to go off. Corrode, die, forget an extra... JMHO.
