Loading Three Guns
Man, I'm PUMPED. Our whitetail season opens Saturday. I'll be at the hunting camp Friday afternoon with eight or nine other guys who are just as pumped as I am.
After our traditional opening weekend dinner of chicken & sausage Jambalaya I'll be loading three guns with their pet loads (while sipping an after dinner Scotch). The .50 Omega X7 with its 4x ProDiamond and the .50 GM LRH Renegade (also wearing a ProDiamond) will each get a 250 grain Deep Curl over 95 grains of GOEX FFFg. The .58 peep sighted GM/TC Hawken will get a 285 grain .575 ball over 95 grains of FFg. The X7 will be with me at the crack of dawn Saturday morning, overlooking the little 1/3 acre plot picture below. The Renegade will help me watch the sunset Saturday evening. And the .58 will see sunrise Sunday morning. I hope to put a nice fat doe in the freezer, but sure wouldn't pass on a mature buck. It will be a great weekend even if I don't make meat. It's a long season and the meat will be there sooner or later. ![]() |
Good luck! Heading out tomorrow morning myself with the X7. Will be trying the peep sight for the first time (while my eyes are still halfway decent).

Just curious as to what is behind the trees in the pic, is it swamp? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Parishes |

No swamp around there Bulider. That's one of 23 small plots we have scattered over 900 acres of pine tree plantation. This is a pretty dry sandy soil area in the "Florida Parishes" section of Louisiana. There's an intermittent creek/ditch that bisects the property and drains pasture land to the North of us. The creek has a few hardwoods along it, but not much.

good luck hunting. I hope you see a nice big animal. Buck or doe, makes no difference. As long as the freezer is filled. Also that deep curl performance report will be interesting.

Semi good luck on your hunt. I really enjoy seeing pictures of different areas around the country. Hopefully you will have a picture of some deer pretty soon.
Any snakes where you hunt(the nasty kind)?? Tom. |
