Breech plug?

First off I'd appreciate it if EndeavorShooter didn't reply, to this thread or any of mine for that matter. But my question is how tight do you tighten your breech plug. I use Anti-seize not Teflon tape if it matters.

I always just snug them good.

Not sure about your gun but mine came with a pretty chinsy wrench. Do you think I should get a socket that fits it or just snug with the supplied wrench?

I use a nut driver for my TC X7 and just snug it. I leave a drop or two of oil on the threads if I don't use teflon tape.Helps to take it out if using powders like t7.

Doesn't have to be real tight. Just snug.

I have a CVA. I tighten it as hard as I can with the end of two fingers.

Through the years i have found it best to just snug the nose if the breech plug to the face of the shelf in the barrel. I use a 1/4" ratchet, extension, and deep socket for insertion and removal.

Another thing I might suggest since you are using grease is to make sure that you, and you probably do, clean the threads in the rifle very each cleaning as the grease can harden and give you a false feeling of being snug. If any of that makes any sense...

dirt1008,

I think the safest way to tighten your plug is until it reaches the shelf. In simpler terms, just tighten the plug the whole way. This will keep any gases or fouling from coming around your threads.

Anti-Seize is a great product and it works perfectly. I quit using it because it was messy. All the different greases are messy, thats why i use the tape now. Either way, tighten the plug the whole way down to seal the breech plug threads.

I will also note, when using BH209 i dont use either most of the time. After claning the plug i wipe down with oil and put back in the gun. No tape or grease.

Never thought about this being that important as I screw it in until it quits. Both my guns come with a cheap breachplug wrench and I just tighten as much as I can by hand which isn't much because when they bottom out they stop. I hope I am not doing it wrong.
