heart break at the range
 

I was hoping this would of been just an play day and finalizing day. not my luck. the scope on silver eagle is 100% bad. just the force need to start 250gr lee reals made the cross hairs move. still shot it hoping that it would hold out. no luck. first 11 shots i can't call them shot gun style pattering. the last 4, you could hear my heart break I watched the zero go away. so bad, the last two where not even on paper. I had over all 2, 3 shot groups measuring .5 to 1 inch touching. another 3 shot group at 2 inch. all at 50yrds.


as for my win apex. an dumb mistake on my part. I played with the scope settings. I gotta set it back up with the load I am going to use.

the bh209 load at 100yrds was almost 2 ft high and about an 6 in group only 65grs with an wad.

pyrodex rs was also about 2ft high at 100 yrds. until I massed with the scope settings. moved back to 50yrds, fired 5 shots. first 4 where off the paper last shot 2in high and 1in to the right of the bulls. I swabbed between every shot but the last 2. so with pyrodex rs my paper patched bullet like likes extreme dirty barrels.

trying to decide if i am going to buy another scope or just switch on off another gun for my silver eagle.

You just had to fiddle with it ;)

good news is, i am sending the scope off. it is going to be replaced or refunded. picked up an budget scope I have had alot of luck with, so i can get on track

tasco bucksight. I have one, it is on its 3rd gun now. been on an 30-06 with factory and varget reloads, knight usak with powder charges up to 120grs and bullets up to 405grs bullets. I have had it for as long as i been an member on this site, i have it on my knight disc now. have not worked up an load for it yet

tc scopes seem to be taking craps lately.

Corey, If you have the cash - a decent straight 4x scope is all you need. The fixed powers seem to hold up a little better than the variables IMO. Another good option is a shotgun scope. I have one on my little Marlin Guide Gun .45-70 and on my Knight inline. They are both 1.75 - 4X with the circle/crosshair. That reticle is great for fast target acquisition and the crosshair is fine enough for 100 yd work. I picked both of them up off of Ebay for <$50

That sucks that the T/C scope died on you. I've also had pretty decent luck with the Tasco Bucksights. I've got a 5 year old one on my muzzle loader. For some reason it shot about 1.5" to the right before the season which is wasn't doing when I shot it in July, but that's the first time I've ever had it move. I sighted it back in and am hoping to check it again this week and plan to hunt with it later this week.

that is funny about the tasco bucksights, they don't like the hotter months. I have noticed that. but when it starts getting cool and hunting season comes around they do that.

as for the scopes, I checked my funds and time frame, my season is going on now. in fact, I saw an buck at an 100yrds and 2 does and 2 fawns. I could not get in range or an good shot on the buck.

I bought the tasco. it is bore sighted and ready for an ranges session.
