Kinda looks like a crack in the photo. Pics can be deceiving though. I would check it first . Better yet now you have a reason to own several backup guns.

If it was mine, i would take it hunting tonight.

I see a small dent at the start of it, and then it fades off. Like it was hit and dragged.

I look at metal parts all day and that is definately a scratch. Like Muley said, it starts out with a dent and then tapers off. Also, you would see the depth on the face of the receiver if it was a crack.

I would say scratch just from the pics. I would take an magnifying glass and get an better look. that is what all the gun smith would do around where i live would do. to really check if there is an problem in the metal is very expensive and I don't know any where in Va that does it.

This is exactly what I thought too. And I cant see any marks at all on the face. Thanks for the input.

I don't mean to sound rude. But it is your rifle. So did you scratch it?? That is a pretty bad scratch so you should know whether you did it or not. Did you drop the rifle on a hard surface?? How did it get there?? That can tell you which one it is.

I have never had a mark like that on any rifle I have ever owned in over 40 years. So how did it get there??

If you have any doubt then don't shoot the rifle. Shooting it with doubt would be crazy. Tom.
