CVA Mtn Stalker 320 REAL day

Holy molly do i regret doing this today! My hands are burning due the cold and then moving into the hot house. Coughing my guts out in the process.

Last night i cleaned up the .50cal cva mountain stalker 1:32 twist sidelock and prepared 5 charges with 70gr pyrodex RS, cci #11 mag caps and my lubed wads.

Went out to 50 yards and took my first 2 shots, A big overlapping hole! I was shooting low and so i adjusted it up a bit " still needs more!" and took 2 more shots which were very close together but not as sweet as the first two. It was excellent though to see this 1:32 twist loves the 320gr REAL's. This will be some fun shooting once i back it out to 100 yards.

Did all of my shooting with light snow coming down and let me tell you, i about crapped my pants when i touched that 10oz trigger i set up last night :eek2: Awesome trigger but dang to light for cold weather shooting!

Will have to adjust the sights up and to the right but im happy as heck to see that another one of my rifles is doing great with this bullet.

Will get pics up here in a bit.

Get much snow? We got 8" in town. The mountains must have 3 times that. I might not make it over the pass again before spring.

Unit 55 will have to wait. :(

MountainDevil54 11-02-2011 11:21 AM

Naw, maybe 3 or 4 inches. Love it though! Bundle up warm and its a joy to be out in. My hands and ears froze however. Any time my ears get cold i get sick to my stomach and close to the verge of puking. No clue what causes that.

Muley Hunter 11-02-2011 11:27 AM

Cold ears.

Semisane 11-02-2011 01:16 PM

Cold? Snow? I just came in from mowing my lawn.

MountainDevil54 11-02-2011 01:18 PM

haha yeah... lucky you.

Shoveling is a bit easier than pushing that heavy mower around you know. Thats all the argument i have :D

Give us another report next Aug when you're dripping wet with humidity.

Everything in life has a downside Muley. For example, there could be a great Black Powder forum with a Muley member. :s2::s2::s2:

Every forum needs a Muley.

It might as well be me.

Although I do have a long list of names I use on forums. I get bored using the same name all the time.

MountainDevil54 11-02-2011 02:09 PM

every name has a special meaning. Mine was after my first muzzleloader cow elk kill.

Muley Hunter 11-02-2011 02:18 PM

The cow was a Mountain Devil, and you had to shoot it 54 times?

bronko22000 11-02-2011 03:05 PM

Those REAL bullets are fussy about the rifles they come out of. Some rifles just love them and others won't shoot them worth a darn. My Lyman GPH would shoot them into one ragged hole at 50 yds (1:32) but by T/C 1:48 they shot terrible.

MountainDevil54 11-02-2011 03:10 PM

bronko, at first i had good luck until i tried 100 yards. All over the place, try 50 yards, all over the place again. Finally settled it by lubing my wads and no its consistent every time i go out to the range. Plan on trying coreys 440gr Lee mold next once it arrives. That will be some fun right there!

Muley Hunter 11-02-2011 03:13 PM

Bronko,

That's the problem with the REAL. It's not really a long range bullet. I don't know what the BC is, but it can't be good.

The Thor is accurate to 200yds. Maybe further, but that far enough. Where Jon is going to hunt next year. He could have some long shots. That's why I bought the Optima.

MountainDevil54 11-02-2011 03:32 PM

thats true to, im used t o elk hunting in closed up dark timber. That country in the video you sent me showed like some promising long distance shots. 250gr thor with my 110gr BH209 load sounds like the trick as usual.

Muley Hunter 11-02-2011 03:39 PM

I'll be hunting the edge of the timber, so, I could get any kind of shot. I want to be ready for it. I can use a scope. :D

MountainDevil54 11-02-2011 03:53 PM

you just hand me your gun then LMAO. I'll bring mine for the looks.

Muley Hunter 11-02-2011 04:06 PM

Get some makeup to make you look 69.

A lot of makeup.

MountainDevil54 11-02-2011 04:10 PM

and an eye patch right? LOL

Muley Hunter 11-02-2011 04:21 PM

Yes, an eye patch.

Aarrggg matey...

MountainDevil54 11-02-2011 04:26 PM

ohh goody!! I can be like Austin Powers when he sees the guy with the huge mole on his face. I'll pick up a stick, look at you funny and poke at your eye patch LOL.

Muley Hunter 11-02-2011 04:30 PM

Please....my eye has had enough torture.

After 5 operations in the last year. The doctor says he has to start from the beginning.

I said cya doc. Nice knowing you. Wait! No it wasn't. Go learn your craft better. You'e not cutting on me anymore.

MountainDevil54 11-02-2011 04:41 PM

good lord! I'd find a new doctor after i punched him in the nose.

Muley Hunter 11-02-2011 04:48 PM

A new doctor will want to do it over too. I'm tired of it. I'll just keep antibiotic ointment in the eye, and keep it covered with a patch. The eye has been blind since 97. I don't care what it looks like anymore.

Which is pretty bad. I won't show it to you.

Thanks :poke:

Muley Hunter 11-02-2011 04:50 PM

Did you throw rocks at the target, or is that the REAL bullets?

MountainDevil54 11-02-2011 05:01 PM

The REAL. Can't get the .500 down the bore unless i use a small mallet and SS rod.

Muley Hunter 11-02-2011 05:03 PM

That should be fun in the field.
