REALs in the Cabelas hawken

I cant believe it! I finally figured out the trick behind them. Last time i shot them in the cabelas hawken with 70gr Pyrodex RS i had a 4" group at 50 yards. Doable in a short distance hunt but not good enough for me.

I used a wad today but LUBED it with my bullet lube. First shot hit a bit lower but the next 2 shots on a fouled bore were overlapping!

This darn game of muzzleloading has the pickiest things ever!

Will post some pics later. The sight deff. has to be moved up a good deal.

I gotta try that over powder wad trick one day. But just reading the title of your thread started to make my shoulder hurt. So maybe I'll just stick with the sabots and 240 grain bullets.

REALs can be fussy. I have a friend that shoots them and over the powder, he puts a chunk of patch material. No kidding. It happened because I told him to try a wad, and he had none. So he improvised. He took some tick, and stuffed that on the powder then the REAL on top of that. He said it helped in the accuracy.

Hardly any recoil, its only 70gr pyrodex. Got more charges to try out maybe tomorrow.

I shot 370 grain Maxi Balls over 70 grains of fff Goex out of a CVA Bobcat and my shoulder was black and blue for a week and a half. It hurt like crazy.

oh the cabelas hawken has a recoil pad.

go to the cva website and order t he $13 crush zone recoil pad. Screws right onto the bobcats stock with no mods needed.

I just ordered one. $5 shipping. What a joke.

MountainDevil54 10-29-2011 03:40 PM

$5 is about right. Flat rate box

Order one from Natchez, and you'll be singing Hallelujah that you only paid $5 from CVA.

I know, but it still kills me. $13.95 for the recoil pad and $5.00 for shipping? That hurts.
