Locktite - Blue

I've never needed it before but my Weaver bases keep loosening up on a Knight Elite. The screws release just enough to cause problems.

Any thoughts on Locktite? I've purchases the blue or removable version but I'm a little nervous and thought I'd ask before using.

The blue loc-tite is put on all the base mount screws on my rifles. It seems to help keep screws tight. If you are nervous about being able to remove them screw with the blue on them, you needn't be. The blue allows screws to be removed when one wishes, and keeps them tight when one doesn't.

What about for the scope rings? I have a Knight that the rear scope ring loosened on before last season. It appears to have loosened again. I read in another comment Loctite works on iron and not aluminum so can it be used on the scope rings?

Thanks Ron. Removal was my worry.

I have always used clear fingernail polish on all scope mounts.once screw is tightened, i just dab a small amount around the head of the screw.i know 4 gunsmiths who use this method. all the screws can easily be removed when needed.

I use it on all of my bases and rings.

Blue all the way, RED is a no no.

I picked up some blue 242 Loctite last night and will be applying it to my scope rings. Hopefully that will do the trick as the gun will put the bullets touching when the rings are tight.

Blue Locktite is ok to use, but some have problems with keeping mounts tight because of not getting all the oil out of the threads. Guns always come with lubed threads. Lighter fluid is good to remove the oil.
