first thoughts on the Encore FX muzzleloaders

First lockup is better than with the standard Encore model. Barrel fits the receiver better(there is almost no gap between the sides of the barrel and receiver.

Breech plug is about 1/2-3/4 of an inch shorter then the older speed breech plug and should work great for loose powder shooters. Length of barrel to end of the plug is 26.5 inches. Might be a one inch difference to a 28 inch Pro Hunter model because of the shorter breech plug on the FX.

Will get it to the range in the next few weeks to crony it and see what velocity you get with the shorter barrel... I bet there will be little or no difference but we shall see about that.

If you want to take a look at the new breech plug click on the innovations tab here:

i have considered the tc encore fx because i would have no intentions of swithcing barrels , i am curious as to the accuracy of this gun?

Grouse45 10-12-2011 07:49 AM

T/C did the right thing with this ML. They new they had problems and really could not correct them with all the barrels already out there.

Hopefully this ML will be right out of the box. I hope to hear good things and i will probably get one myself.

Alot of people are making after market parts to correct the regular ProHunters and Endeavors. They obviously dont and wont like this.

Cant wait to see your range reports. Thanks

I handled one the other day at Cabelas. While i see the advantage in a swap barrel, i did like it. I wish they would have made it in a 2 barrel set with a 45cal barrel also.

The barrel on the FX is in place with a hinge pin that can only be tapped out one way. The barrel will come off however no other barrels will work due to its design. I have been given one report by a good friend who did a trigger job on one. Space will not be made in my safe for one.

You couldn't get another gun in your safe if you tried!! haha.

aarontriton 10-12-2011 08:28 AM

has any one shot this gun? for those of us who could care less if you can buy a $300 dollar barrel for it . i would be interested in accuracy

Omega45 10-12-2011 08:41 AM

The Encores were made so YOU have the option of switching barrels. If you want a tried and proven fixed barrel TC without passing a background check get a Omega or Triumph.

Accuracy is not that great from what I hear but I have not shot one so I will comment no further.

+ 1. the Omega and triumph both are proven muzzle loaders. the Triumph is a extremely accurate rifle right out of the box, no need to buy anything and no need for a trigger job.all i did to mine was apply some Jb/Kroil to smooth the bore out and it shoots just about any .240-.300 gr saboted bullet with excellent accuracy.i will admit i have never been a fan of rifles with interchangeable barrels. they always seem to have some type of issues.

aarontriton 10-12-2011 09:06 AM

yes i know there are other tc s with a fixed barrel but i dont care for them i like the feel of the the fx witch is a fixed barrel gun.

rdpettit 10-12-2011 12:21 PM

you do not need a background check for this gun... you do NOT fill out a 4473 for the Encore FX.

Exactly, no paperwork with the FX. Order it from Cabelas to your door if you want. I will stick to my Pro Hunters. The paperwork does not bother me and I like the ability to change to a rifle barrel. :happy0001:

If you got one lets see how she shoots.

The breech plug looks to be kinda copy of the QRBP. Is it? It does have better geometry, than the QRBP, at the powder end. If it has a 5/32" flame channel, and a standard TC 0.029" flash hole, it may be near ideal, for igniting BH.

I wonder if it makes as nice a seal with the barrel, as the QRBP do.

Are you saying TC copied CVA's QRBP? I think TC just got :busted:

rdpettit 10-16-2011 02:08 PM

ok here are some results... longer "28 inch" barrel on the PH version doesn't really get you more velocity. Barrel is tight. With .451 dia bullets best use HPH 24 sabots. the MMP 3P-EZ is too loose but if you have .452 dia bullets this most likely is the sabot to use but I didn't have any .452 bullets...

Here is the velocities from from my crony. All shots were with 120 grains of FFF T7. Tried to take one with the FF version but crony malfuntioned on those too shots for some reason...It was very windy so I only shot at 50 yards however the range has high dirt side banks...

These were all one shot velocities but should give an idea of the velocity from the 26 barrel:

1982 fps with a 250 grain Barnes TEZ with the Barnes blue sabot (HPH 24)

1812 fps with a 300 grain Speer .451 Uni-cor and a MMP 3P-EZ (three petal-too loose imo)

1851 fps with the same 300 grain Speer .451 Uni-cor and a MMP HPH 24

Accuracy was excellent--one hole group at 50 yards.

Mine just showed up yesterday from cabelas the gun seems to shoulder well. Haven't shot it yet I use just open sights were I hunt. Looking forward to our opener on the 29th. Unless my nephew wishes to take it for the upcoming youth hunt :)

LOL exactly how i see it.

rdpettit 10-19-2011 03:53 PM

it's better than CVA's

MountainDevil54 10-19-2011 03:55 PM

if you look, theres nothing on the end of it to expand and seal off the gasses like on the QRBP. Will be interesting to see how it does with blow back into the threads.

Notice the tool cut out in it? uh oh!

rdpettit 10-19-2011 03:58 PM

there was no blow back... much cleaner that the CVA plug and the older PH plug. I had the internal plug on my PH that you needed the turn tool to pull out.... this is the best plug I've ever had...

Just went out and shot my daughter's new FX. It sighted in quickly at 50 yards with no issues. Went back and shot a three shot group at 100 yards and shot a 3/4" group! 70 grains BH209 and Hornady SST's. I don't think I could ask for better. I like it much better than the Triumph or the Omega, but that's just me.

lemoyne 08-24-2012 06:10 AM

What is the trigger pull weight?

northernoakshunt1996 08-25-2012 08:00 AM

my crappy review but i hope it helps. couldnt find any info on it online before i bought it so i figured it might help someone make a choice
