going to order the 50. some time. I was worried about the lee .501 sizer being too small after the few test I think i should be fine if I order it.
the tape I am using measure .002". I am thinking it has been around the store for an long time. since we don't have anything it works in or even had anything in the store for it to work in for close to 4yrs. if you want i can send you an roll, tell me what you think. worst case, I got and get some tracing paper and start over. should be easier since i know more about what i am doing Don't overlook that lee C-501-440-RF bullet. It is an amazing bullet. Don't send a roll of the tape, I might have you send maybe a foot or so so I can cut a few patches and roll and size some 50's to give you an idea what they are going to do. I don't have an hardness test so I can give you that of mine.
can tell you. it is well, very well sorted range. all cast with my wheel weight cash jacketed smelted on there own. I was working on home made hardness tester. had that lead at 6 to 8bhn. (steel sling shot ammo as the ball pressed in an vise for 20secs, have to find my notes on it for the weight) |
I have heard of guys doing that. IF they have a actual hardness to go by when measuring the dent. If you need some lead tested lest me know. I can do it for you. Ron

what type of tester you have. been looking in to the lee tester, since I am on an tight budget. I know it needs the bullets. I know some need ingots but i think a lot of companies have gone another way.
I prefer to send bullets. i think the paper may be old thermal now. that could explain the dark marks. but did not pass any the test for thermal. it is not over all slick, I could not leave an finger nail mark, or it did not turn black when I applied heat (an lighter an foot or two away, my hand got pretty warm lol). I cleaned my sizer four ways and cleaned the .451 extremely well, still has marks, in the .454 brown marks, at the lube grooves and from from the .451 black, all the way down. I will pick up some tracer paper when I am done at the range. only real way to find out is use another type paper |
little more adventures in paper patching.
my training bullets using masking tape help me find the tension i was needing to do it right ![]() this is an lee 452-255-rf (.452 255gr bullet) drops at 260gr plus for me ![]() I think the paper I am using is some type of imprint paper. that is why I am getting dark lines. the ones with masking type where done why before these, |

I have them too. I have sizers that never touch lead and they still have them a little. It looks like you have lube on the paper in that one picture. The lube will cause the paper to tare. You can lube right before you shoot that will work great. I have a couple of moulds that I have had some luck with but it has been kind of spotty luck. I have a lee 452-255-RF like yours. Mine also throws at 260 so I am thinking your lead must be pretty soft to throw that weight. That bullet has just not done it in my gun. I need to play with it more. I also have a C-452-300-RF they come out at 316 grains. I was really hoping that this bullet was going to work out like the 50 cal RF. It has done well a few times but over all it has not been consistent. I bumped the hardness up a pinch and need to try it again. This is a picture of the three bullets I am using with this 45 with a 1-28 twist. ![]() Keep plugging along you will get it. I know I do my bullets different than most BPCR guys do. It just takes some testing to figure out how you like them. Remember if you have a question feel free to ask. Ron |
I will ron
the ones with lube have masking tape on them, I was hoping the lube will dissolve some of the adhesive on the tape. think of just throwing those in to the pot with my next range lead smelt. I would like to send ya some bullets to test and an sample of that paper I am using. seemed to work fine. came apart in sections. read on cast boolits it should be confetti, but I think that was in the smoke less section |
The paper should come out as confetti. Sounds good. If you can wait for this winter to send the samples when stuff slows down that would be great. I have a couple of hunts I will be guiding on so I am doing a lot of scouting for a while. Ron
