Today was raining and the range was muddy but I wanted to get the Green Mountain 54-120 Limited Edition Brush Gun zero'd. Not a great day to shoot but I was under shelter and there was no wind. This is the first time shooting the Brush Gun with its Next Vista dipped stock and Leupold bases and rings. I stayed at the 50yd range since the 100yd range was a muddy mess and under repairs from a flood a few weeks back. I know from last year where it will hit at 100yds if zero'd at 50yds.

I fired one shot which hit low and right. Adjustment made to the scope. And a 3 shot group fired. These two groups were with Barnes .458 300gr Socoms. They fit great in a Harvester 54x45 sabot. For when you may have deer in your area wearing kevlar.


Scope adjustment made about 1/2" to right and first shot hit just a shade high. I did not tap the turret after making the adjustment. Next 3 shots touching. Yep, theres 3 in the green.....


I was going to pack up and leave but had nothing better to do so I grabbed a few Speer .452 250gr Deep Curls and put them in the same Harvester sabot. Not my hunting load so I did not care where they hit. Point of impact was very close to the Socoms.


These are the 11 fired primers using the Lehigh Gen II breechplug. 4 Fed209A's and 7 Rem STS's.


My shooting set up. The 50yd range at my club is more set up for shooting pistols or rimfires. I normally use the Lead Sled when I shoot at 50yds but I have got away from using it and really have no intention to again.


If Knight made this shorty in a .50 or even a .45 I would definitely buy one!

The target with 4 Socom hits was with 72gr by weight of BH209. The other targets were with 110gr by volume of BH209.

Yep, 20" 1:28 twist. Very well balanced and lightweight.

They pop up for sale every once and awhile. If I ever see one I will let you know. New with laminated stock delivered was $424. Mine is a low serial # and I do not believe they sold as many as they intended.

Great shooting.

Mine loves the SOCOM also in the Harvester sabot but it likes 120gr. That is one heck of a tough sabot too. Even tougher than the Harvester made for smokeless IMO. Its really odd that a thick petal sabot with a BT bullet that much under bore size is so deadly accurate.

I tried the 285gr Barnes Spitfire in the MMP and Harvester 54x45s too and got several tumblers. Accuracy was junk. They both shot other 45s ok but the SOCOM is just a freak and nasty on deer. First year ive chose a 54x45 over a 54x50 in a long long time.

I would love one in a 45 carbine actually instead of a 50cal....with a 1-24 of course.
