It sounds like one is a Master Hunter barrel. Does it say MHC ahead of the serial #?
The master hunter barrels are the only 50 caliber barrels I know of that are fluted in Knight disc extremes. |
i have found a couple with the fluted barrels and they are not advertising them as long range hunters. and they are just straight flutes on the barrel :confused0024:

Long Range Hunter's have a spiral flute system and a forked recoil lug. |
So is this an accurate setup ? I am leaning towards the used disc extreme Thumbhole with the straight flutes It looks to be in very clean condition? or is my money better spent on a new knight disc exteme with thumbhole non fluted ? I love the mountaineer but is out of my price range.

But, in the same breath the new Knight DISC Exteme will offer everything the used MHC does and more... The DISC Extreme comes with the forked recoil lug and really nice carbon stock. |
the better deal would be whatever fits into your price range... if you buy used, make sure that evrything is clean and not pitted... i have noticed in my area, alot of folks buy a MLer just to extend their hunting season and then do not clean it as they should. either by not knowing how or just not knowing that BP is corrosive in nature.
You obviously can usually find a great deal on used, and any of the knights would be a good buy.... as long as it was taken care of. if the MHC is in good shape, and price.. i think you will like it. My rule of thumb is usually, if it doesn't save me 30% or more... I will buy new!!! But, factor in the lehigh conversion as well.. but, you may like the disc and not want the conversion... definitely don't have to have it. I believe the lehigh conversion will fit the MHC, but may have issues with tolerances on some of them.. if i remember correctly.. |
Thanks guys for all the help . i guess it depends. i know what you mean about guys not cleaning them i know guys that have not cleaned ther ml since last deer season . my current ml is over 10 yrs old and is very clean . i keep my guns so i may end up going with the new Knight disc extreme thumbhole carbon
