i swear you give someone a friendly warning not to shoot BH209 in a plunger style rifle due to the great possibility of the primer ejecting and hitting you in the eye or forehead and they get all co cky and pist saying they been doin it for 4 years and that you dont know what you are talking about :rolleye0011:

Where did they get Blackhorn 4 years ago. I thought it was newer than that

I asked a friend to check at Gander or Cabela's for some Blackhorn for me. I asked him before Carlos got his in stock. And he did not know I received two cannisters from Carlos. He said Gander had it in stock, and asked me if I wanted some. I told him I had some. So he said he was going to go ahead and buy some for his MK-85 with the #11 ignition system. I told him the powder was not designed for that rifle. He said OK. Then he came home with a cannister of it, and brought it over to shoot his rifle.

I asked him why he bought the powder. And he said the fellow at Gander told him that I was nuts, and did not know what I was talking about. He said the fellow at Gander said the BH would work fine for his plunger MK-85 with #11 caps?? Can you believe that??

I showed Tim the web site. And then I ended up with another can of BH for free. Tom.

what i dont get..... why cant those guys at the stores just pick up a bottle and read it? those places dont sell a lot of centerfire rifles so its not like they are swamped with work.

My Pappy used to say I can tell you allot faster then I can show you !!!!

yeah now Wakeman has jumped in and is saying that you can shoot bh209 in a plunger gun, that its safe.

There is no basis for this wrongful comment. Triple Se7en makes the same or greater pressure as Blackhorn 209 in loose powder form, sometimes markedly greater pressure with pellets. If this comment had any basis in reality, those with pull-**** actions would have been pulling 209 primers out of their foreheads for the last nine years courtesy of Triple Se7en.

None of this is any excuse not to wear eye protection when shooting any firearm. 209 primers don't go anywhere, the reason the once-common three-way breechplugs came with 209 de-primers so you could get them out.

Blackhorn 209 is harder to ignite than organic BP or Pyrodex, and as a result is safer to handle, use, and store. The only reason not to use it in a pull-**** or open action is ignition-- for positive ignition, you'll likely need to open the flash hole.

As for who uses Blackhorn 209 in an MK-85, I can tell you that Tony Knight does. He hasn't been afflicted by any 209 primer launching, and I don't know of anyone who has regardless of black powder substitute.
