Good examples for sure. I'm going to print those out for the kids and new hunters. Thanks

I always instruct young or beginning hunter's to picture a soccer ball setting inside the deer's chest with the center of it just behind the front shoulders. When you shoot, aim for the center of the ball regardless of the angle. The animal will normally drop right there or won't go very far.

That is a good sight. And good information.

I disagree with the whole shoot right behind the shoulder theory regardless of the angle. I had this mentality when I was younger but after having to field dress a deer that i hit in one lung and then guts the rest of the way I now think about where that bullet is going to exit. If I had thought about where I should have shot that deer I would have shot it closer to the front of the deer so that I would not have hit it in the guts and then I would have also more than likely hit it in the heart and lungs instead of just one lung and the liver/guts. And I was shooting a 270 at about 60 yds and it was a little fork horn buck that I was more than happy to shoot so it was not a bad angle just a bad shot placement on my part because I was not thinking with the right mindset. Just my .02

Wett - whoever told you that 'theory' was, as you said, entirely incorrect. That is why I alway instructed and followed the soccer/volleyball theory. Because it is imaginaing a 3D image betweent the shoulders. The 40+ deer I've taken with firearms never did much complaining.

I see what you mean now I misread your post the first time. Yes that is exactly what I do now. And know one really told me about that theory I was just young and not using my head it was only my second deer hunt and I got way excited and it led to me not shooting where I should have.
