45 Cal Load

Was wondering what is a good solid 40 cal bullet load combo for the 45 cal muzzleloader, ,lets say from hogs to Mule Deer!!!

Thanks
Jason

Jason, you probably could have guessed this one but I am shooting the Lehigh 40-200 grain fro my 45's and occasionally even from a 50.

I have not used this bullet on any hogs... we don't got em... but on Whitetail they certainly do a number....

Tom, Grouse45, has used them and I think Lemoyne has also, on hogs they certainly work for Tom...

I am still stuck on T7 so I am shooting 120 grains T7-2f with a tan MMP sabot. Really accurate, that whitetail was hit @ 180?? yards. Was up there yesterday and I was going to range but forgot the range finder. I am headind in there in the morning and will remember the range finder.

Tom and Lee both shoot BH and Tom is shooting 140 grains, but he is also using a Knight... I THINK Lee is shooting an Encore series - but do not remember which one.

110gr BH209 and a Barnes 195gr MZ in a Harvester smooth sabot

I think I know what gun you bought....:D Try 100gr with a 195gr Barnes MZ and it will stack them.

Another good choice is the 200 gr Hornady XTP. They have worked well on whitetail for me and are very accurate out of my 1:28" GM LRH barrel.

I would have to add that the 200 grain XTP shoot real well for me out of a light blue sabot in my .45 GMB. I am only shooting 95 grains of powder but I think that would do the job on a deer. Now if the deer would just cooperate.

I need to add the 200 Grain Scorpion from Harvester. <$20 for 50 and they tested well for terminal performance. Plus, you can order the Crushed Rib or Smooth Blue sabots at the same time.

All of the bullets mentioned so far should work well. the .180 gr gold dot would also be a good choice. "regardless" of what rifle your shooting, it's a good idea to never "exceed" 120 gr Bh209 powder!

The Barnes 195/Lt Blue Harv. sabot/60 gr's N120 or H4198 will be what I try in my 45 this year.

60gr H4198 will shoot great in a SMOKELESS .45.

Donjose's gun is not smokeless.
