Chrony Results XTP Mag vs Deep Curl Part II
First of I will repost what I did in part one.
90 grains BH209 Speer 300 grain Deep Curl .233 BC Avg Velocity was 1658fps Dead on at 100 yards would result in 1401fps with 1307 ft lb 200 yards is a drop of 16.3 inches 1197fps with 954 ft lb 100 grains BH209 Speer 300 grain Deep Curl .233 BC Avg Velocity was 1836fps Dead on at 100 yards would result in 1553fps with 1607 ft lb 200 yards is a drop of 13.0 inches 1315fps with 1151 ft lb Now XTP Mag 90 grains BH209 Hornady XTP Mag 300 grain .200 BC Avg. Velocity was 1729 Dead on at 100 yards would result in 1421fps with 1345 ft lb 200 yards is a drop of 15.9 inches with 1184fps with 933 ft lb 100 grains BH209 Hornady XTP Mag 300 grain .200 BC Avg Velocity was 1824 Dead on at 100 yards would result in 1500 fps with 1499 ft lb 200 yards is a drop of 14.1 inches with 1241fps with 1025 ft lb Now here is the data for 110 grains of Blackhorn 209 Speer 300 grain Deep Curl Avg Velocity was 1939 Dead on at 100 yards would result in 1641fps with 1794 ft lb 200 yards is a drop of 11.5 inches with 1385fps with 1277 ft lb 300 yards is a drop of 41.4 inches with 1184fps with 933 ft lb (With a ballistic scope 300 yards is completely obtainable and your Energy would knock down a deer and possibly an elk) 300 Grain Hornady XTP MAG Avg Velocity was 1927 Dead on at 100 yards would result in 1585fps with 1674 ft lbs 200 yards is a drop of 12.5 inches with 1303fps with 1131 ft lb 300 yards is a drop of 45.7 inches with 1105 fps with 813 ft lb Again this was with a TC Triumph Bone Collector, W209 primers, BH209, Havester Crushed Rib Sabots, and Nikon Omega Scope. Both bullets shot good groups. I did notice as the data will state, with a scope sighted dead on with Deep Curls will shot XTP roughly 1.5 inches lower at 100 yards. I question the XTP at longer distances, I just don't think it would handle beyond 200 yards. The Deep Curl I have complete faith in. Can shoot at a 8 inch metal plate all day long at 300 yards. So come hunting if the conditions are right I will not hesitate taking the shot. Especially for antelope. At some point I will Chrony 120 grains just not this year. Hope this helps some people or atleast give you a base line. PS. Ron you were right on with the fps. I thought that I would be above 2000fps. But once again your right. Also I don't have the internet right now. Actually over at a friends house writing this. So that is why I'm MIA lately. |

Hey 50calty, good info. I was wondering how yo came up with the long distance numbers? Did you actually shoot them out to 200/300 yds? I have no way to shoot that far myself, so I envy you if you did.
thanks for the data. |
Did go shooting today and I"m amazed at how much wind can drift a bullet even if it is 5-10mph. It crazy. Diffently going to have to take that in account when hunting.
Your statement is probably the least understood part about shooting ml's at long ranges. The worst part unless you are really trained to read it the winds are mostly likely not going to be the same over the long range distance - they may even change direction during the flight. Even drafts you can get from shooting across a drainage or draw can effect the path of the bullet dramatically |
