Good Lord Man!
While I was at the range today, the neighbor came up to shoot. He saw me loading my flinter and asked what the masking tape was for on my ramrod. "Is that so you don't push your bullet down too far!" he said. I said: "NO, its so I make sure I push the bullet down far enough."
He told me that when he was shooting his inline, he was shooting all over the place. So he decided to load the bullet 1" OFF the charge and was getting great accuracy. I told him he better not do that anymore as not having the bullet setting on the charge is the same as having a barrel obstruction. No way he said. You don't have to put the bullet right on the charge. I told him - Well I'm not going to argue with you and it's your money. Just be sure your hosp insurance is up to date in case the rifle blows up in your face. Some guys never listen or read their manuals. |
I don't know that a one-inch space will do him harm. But I sure wouldn't chance it.

Download some information off the internet and drop it off to him. then he can see for himself, what can happen when one doesn't properly load a front stuffer. Ray

I found out the hard way what a distance of about 15" off the charge will do to you gun!!!! :hit:

just makes you want to squeeze their neck huh?

I guess he doesn't know nearly ALL straight wall cartridge load data recommends no less than a 95% case fill with BP or subs. Most recommend using a filler or felt wad to bring it upto 100% case capacity or even compressed to 105%.
A ML using BP or subs is no different. |
They don't even make a pill to fix what is wrong with that guy...

That's why I am glad that where I shoot there is noone around except the wife and kids and I taught them better than that.they know to mark the ramrod to make sure the bullet is seated all the way.

I took builder's idea and printed a couple pages off the net about loading and shooting black powder guns and gave them to him to read. Don't know if he will do it right or continue down his own path. You know, You just can't fix stupid. And this guy ain't the sharpest arrow in the quiver!
