Easy answer is, Absolutely!! Ray

Muley Hunter 08-11-2011 07:21 PM

Sure. Unless you're talking about elephants.

Roughly 1700fps MV by VOLUME....i think so. :D That beats the snot out of a 44mag with a 250gr.

Big Ol Gobbler 08-11-2011 08:02 PM

Thanks guys. I want to try this set-up for my 10 year old. Hopefully it shoots well out of the Sidekick.

Muley Hunter 08-11-2011 08:06 PM

Sabot in a sidelock....eh....err.......ummm..........wheez... ....snort....

Gm54-120 08-11-2011 08:15 PM

SideKick as in a NEF ML?

They actually make a ACP conversion just for that gun...I think Precision Rifle makes them. I would also consider the 250gr GoldDot too. Thats a good bullet for that speed.

I hope you dont mean a side lock.

Muley Hunter 08-11-2011 08:18 PM

Oh sidekick............I read too fast again.

Never mind.....:happy0157:

Big Ol Gobbler 08-11-2011 08:18 PM

Yep. NEF Sidekick.

builder459 08-11-2011 08:19 PM

You will need a hubbards 209 BP in order to shoot Bh209 from that side kick.Ray

Gm54-120 08-11-2011 08:26 PM

Big Ol Gobbler

Yep PR sells a ACP conversion and Metrics Unlimited sells a good BH209 pug IIRC. Those are actually pretty good guns once you swap out the breach plugs.

Big Ol Gobbler 08-11-2011 08:32 PM

Too much blowback with the lovely orange primer carriers? Thanks for the heads up.

It's off topic, but..... No need to umm, wheeze or snort Muley. The Green Mountain LRH barrels on my Renegade and TC Hawken shoot sabots extremely well.

And if it's a matter of sabots in a sidelock offending your delicate "historically correct" sensibilities, well - that's just too darn bad. :D

oldsmellhound 08-11-2011 10:16 PM

I've taken 2 deer with 80 grains T7 and a 200 grain SST. One at 40 yards, one at 90 yards. No problems for me with this. And your load is 50 grains heavier. I wouldn't lose any sleep over this...

cayugad 08-12-2011 05:58 AM

I never shot a deer with a sabot load yet. But I would not be afraid to use that load.

You don't mind if I have an opinion, and I don't believe I was talking to you.

Nobody who knows me has ever called me delicate.

Why don't you put a scope on your Hawken and use pellets too? Maybe you can dip it in camo too. :lolabove:

Muley... careful with the transgressions - apparently you have not seen Semi's 'sinful sisters' - all sidelocks all scoped - shooting Gold Dots...

Don't you remember when the Chinese developed sabots - centuries ago... sabots are really old - you had to be there - you gotta remember them. The French get a lot of credit but they just re-invented them.

I know about his scopes. I thought it was a good time to rub it in.

Plastic....... centuries ago?

Actually, I do use sabots, only I call it a patch. :D

Nope.. no plastic... the Chinese use wood as the sabot...

Colorado Cajun 08-12-2011 01:27 PM

I've put a 350 gr FPB through an elk with 85 gr of BH209 at 119 yards. It was slightly quartering towards me so the bullet went in infront of the right shoulder, punched through bone of the left shoulder and stopped against the far hide. So to answer your question... YES!

Reese260 08-15-2011 08:54 AM

FWIW, in my NEF Huntsman, the Metrics Unlimited breech plug ignites BH209 much more reliably than the PR .25 ACP breech plug.

Big Ol Gobbler 08-17-2011 02:49 PM

Follow-up question... I received the Metrics Unlimited breech plug today and the instructions say to use a muzzleloading primer. Almost everything I've read says to use shotgun primers... I've got both, so which is it? Thanks for your help.

Gm54-120 08-17-2011 05:41 PM

Big Ol Gobbler

One of the guys on MM uses Win209s in a regular metrics Unlimited plug IIRC. So im pretty sure any primer will fit. That is the longest 209 primer so others might have more blowby. WinT7s are really close in size to a regular Win209 if you want to try them with T7. He modded a few plugs to use a O-ring with shorter MAG primers with very good results too.
