shot the Mountaineer1

I decided that even though I am behind on everything that I would at least run out and finally take a few shots just to get it out of my system. So I grabbed the Mountaineer, I didn't want to measure out powder so I just took some triple 777 pellets and 777 primers.I didn't plan on sighting it in or doing anything other than get a feel for it and pull the trigger.
I loaded a 100 grains ( 2pellets, and I am not a pellet person) I didn't have any sabots for the Lehighs so I took some 260 gr Scorpion pt with crushrib sabot.
I set the target at 50 yards, just to see if it was on paper. The first shot wasn't bad, but i couldn't figure out what made the other hole. I didn't have a shooting rest so I just shot from a prone position.
then I swabbed with my usual spit patch and shot #3,4 ,and 5
Not a bad group. as I was walking to the target I spotted some of the sabots so I picked up 3 of them. Then I made one scope adjustment and took one shot at a new target. I was so pleased I decided to go home and clean it and wait for the Bloodline bullets and weigh out some powder to really experiment and dial it in. But I do believe the Mountaineer is a winner.

Looking good Chet. It must have taken a lot of restraint to not go back to the house and grab a canister of powder and variety of bullets to spend a few hours shooting.

yes especially since I have an Elk tag in my pocket that's only valid til August 31st.Be nice to find a good Blackhorn load for it to shoot an elk with.( probably try Grouse's suggestion) I plan on using the Mountaineer for antelope and deer just to test it and the bloodline bullets. Unfortunately summer is hectic with the gardens and putting up food. Gotta start cutting firewood next week. I like to eat and be warm in the winter. Not an easy task to accomplish here where I live. Next time out I will experiment more. Still gotta help 3 of the kids practice too before the season starts for them, which is Sept. 12th.

chetmarks

Bad elk medicine... 120 grain of T7-2f or BH it really doesn't matter - .458-300 grain Bloodline with its' sabot... 2.5" high @ 100... and with that @ 180 yards you will be down about 3"

looking good Chet. That rip in the target IS odd. Highly unusual but I would guess it could have been the sabot. Even though 50 yds is a long way for a sabot to go. That could also explain the difference between shot 1 and the rest of them!! I guess I am just thinking out loud.
