Leave it to Semisane

Leave it to him to get me thinking again. (and that's dangerous in itself!) Now he has me wondering what heavier charges will do to the accuracy of my .32 T/C Cherokee. So it looks like I will be taking her out tomorrow morning before it gets too hot and start with 25 gr FFFg and work up groups in 5 gr increments.
Then I want to try out a new lube concoction that me and Cayugad chatted about offline. (1 oz beeswax, 100 gr alox, 3 1/2 oz of olive oil). It has good consistancy in the 75* temp in the house. But I/we want to see how it acts in 80+ temps. I have 10 370 gr .50 cal Maxiballs lubed up and the can of lube will sit on my truck's tailgate until they are shot. That should give me a pretty good idea. Will fill you all in with the results.

While you're at it Bronko, go all the way and try Liquid Wrench for a patch lube (very light application).

Maybe next time Semi. Don't want to change too many vaiables at once. Have to be scientific you know. I have a baseline with Ox Yoke .015" patches. So I am going to try and see if I can use pillow ticking lubed with OO.Hopefully I can get the .310 balls down the bore.

You have JB'd that bore, haven't you?

bronko22000 08-04-2011 05:33 PM

NO? Y do u ask?

Semisane 08-04-2011 05:52 PM

It greatly eases loading of a patch and ball, as does a touch of 400 or 600 grit Emery paper at the muzzle.

Thanks. You know you are really getting to be a PITA. But I still like you..:) I guess I am heading down the basement and getting the JB out!!!!

Bronko - is that regular olive oil, virgin olive oil or extra virgin olive oil?

I tested oils as a bait additive quite some time ago and there are many to choose from.

Maybe corn oil or rape seed oil or saflower oil or even peanut oil.

All have a slightly different consitency.

Extra virgin JW? Damn, I've been using the wrong one.
