Harvester time!
3 days to get them in! :happy0001:
Got some 260gr PT golds and some black crush rib and red crush rib sabots to try out in the new Optima, so im going to reload and give them a try here in a bit at 100 yards to see which sabots she prefers. |
You're funny. I've never known anybody who gets so excited about shooting.
Since we post on about 100 forums together. I get to see t 100 times. Ok, a little exaggeration. It's only 98 forums. |
LOL. Yeah i love trying new stuff.
Optima ended up loving 100gr BH209 with the 260 PT Gold and the red crush rib sabot. Its a good tight fit but thats what i wants. The black smooth sabot didn't shoot well with the 100gr charge. Still testing but my barrel got over heated to the point that i could not touch it. Go out around 7pm and see how it does then with the 110gr load and the red crush ribs. |
AWESOME!
On a bad note, the red crush ribs didnt like 110gr BH209 at all. Poor group @ 100. Switched to the black crush rib which went down like a powerbelt, Along with a max load of 120gr BH209 and beautiful 3 shots touching! Went and fudged that up by taking a 4th shot though :( No biggy anyway, the first 3 were the proof in the pudding LOL. I plan on trying the smooth back harvester sabots tomorrow with 110 and 120gr BH209 and see how that does. I much prefer to use more powder than a tighter fitting sabot. Those reds are pretty darn firm to load. |
Did you try the mmp-24'S. might be a good fit..Ray
|
no i havent tried any mmp sabots yet. Im just still playing around right now. May have my brother in law use these in his wolf since we both got the same hunt.

I still want to try the 300 gr pt gold out with 110 Bh209. Ray
|
gotta save my $$! Have to order an SS .270 Scout for my nephew to use on his thanksgiving hunt.
|
i'll have to order some of those 300's the next time. I really was thinking about their 200gr bullet as well. A nice light weight bullet, 120gr BH209 and new mexico muley sounds yummy!
|
My Encore Bergara barrel likes the 260 and 300gr PT's in a Harvester smooth for < 300gr bullets with 105-110gr BH209. I never saw the need to go max with them.
MD, Is the camera broke? Whats a range report from you without pictures? :poke: |
oh i will get them tomorrow, im uploading a video right now. Gotta do all the uploading at 12am when its free and doesnt use my bandwidth lol.
|
I got in my supply of PT golds and have to decide what rifle I want to try next. Maybe the black diamond.
Sounds like you had a good day on the range. |
T.B. shoots the 260 & 300 with 110 BH!

Sounds like you had a good day on the range. Whatever gun and powder you decide to shoot them with they will fly great. The 300's weigh in between 300-305gr IIRC but it does not have any effect on accuracy when I shot them. |

I bet the Remington Genesis would shoot them great. Are you able to try them with some Swiss? I have been wanting to get some Swiss but only one shop carries it around me and its about 2hrs away.

Not much of a difference between the 260's and 300's and POI is very close at 100yds. They are one of the most accurate bullets out there in my .50's.
I have yet to shoot the 240's but according to TB they have less recoil and shoot great with reduced loads of BH209. |
Yeah, i would probably push the 240gr PTs slower than the 260 or 300 for hunting. The lower SD might over expand if pushed too hard. Ive shot plenty of the 260gr and 300gr PTs and they are fairly easy to find a accurate load.
I even shot the 260gr at smokeless speed and it is a tack driver but im not sure if it would hold up at those speeds either. The 300gr PT would likely handle whatever you want within reason. I will try them on media/jugs the next time i take out the NULA.....as soon as its not an oven outside. |

Is the camera broke? Whats a range report from you without pictures? :poke: ![]() ![]() Lowest 3 shots were my first with 100gr blackhorn209, 260 pt gold and the red crush rib sabot, Next 3 " Actually 4 if you count my what the heck 4th shot" was the next group i shot. ![]() 120gr BH209, 260gr pt gold and the black crush rib, loads like a powerbelt but want a full load. No clue what happened with #3, most likely barrel heat as i did not let the barrel cool down with any of these shots or the previous shots. ![]() Went back to that 100gr red crush rib load to see if it was a fluke, fired 3 shots into a beautiful lil group and ruined it with 4th shot. Take picture of the 3 shot group first and if the 4th screws up, oh well, no proof that 4th shot ever took place :happy0157: Im really just trying things out and looking for a load my brother in law can use this year in his wolf. I plan on using the 250gr Powerbelt for my hunt so it will be nice to test 2 different bullets on the same hunt. |
I tried the red CR and loading pressure increased with each shot fired. The Harvester smooths are the ticket in my gun.
|
i tried some of those as well with the 100gr load and it was around a 4" group. They load pretty easy. I could try 120gr with them next time and see how the smooths do.

The 300's shot very good in my TC PH with a black cr, 120gr of BH209, Win 209. Pretty decent recoil though.
|
yeah the even 260's have some good recoil to them with 120gr bh209.
builder, i hasnt a clue what sabots come with the shockwaves, remember, im a conical shooter! Sabots are still fairly a new subject for me. |

lmao whhhat?!! Cheap what?!
Awesome, thank you. Im not cheap, just dont have a lot of funds available right now. I have to keep some $$ on the side to pay for an FFL fee. |
IIRC Del said he used HPH 24s and some HPH-12s for the majority of T/Cs 50x45 sabots with XTPs and ShockWaves. Excluding the yellow EZ-Glides?
The HPH-24 will have a loaded OD very similar to a Harvester Smooth short or long and about the same length as the long (300gr+). HPH-12 is a couple thousandths larger and i THINK a tad shorter than the 24. T/C might have their own specs on some sabots. Currently i prefer the Harvester smooth short for shooting sub 300gr lead/copper bullets and the HPH24 for 300gr bullets and nearly all solid coppers, Lehighs or Partitions. |
