Thompson Center Big Bore

The Thompson Center .58 cal. Big Bore was on the Renegade frame wasn't it? There is one for sale at the small shop that I go to all the time. They want $329.00 for it. They say it has only been shot 6 times. It comes with 3 boxes of Maxi Balls, minus 6 bullets of course. If the bore is in good shape, do you, anyone, think that is a good price? I just saw that Ableammo has the 15 pack of 555 gr. Maxi Balls for $15.41. That's about 46.00 worth of bullets that go with the gun.

The barrel alone is $224.00 from Green mountain. So that's only $105.00 for the lock and stock and they looked to be in great shape. Minus $45.00 for the bullets and that's only $60.00 for the lock and stock.

Sounds like you've already talked yourself into it. :s2:

Offer them $278, buy it for $300, and walk away smiling.

No need for conicals in a .58. A round ball will do anything you will likely ever want to do with it unless you get good enough to lob those conicals into a target at 300 yards with about a ten foot hold over.

What do you suppose the rifle goes for brand new?

Brand new... you can not buy one anymore. But a new T/C Renegade goes for around $450 give or take. I would offer him three hundred and if he goes for it.. you're in luck. Just on it. Even at $329.00 it would be a good deal.

I have been interseted in a big bore ever since I got my Renegade. I would love to have one, this one has the rubber recoil pad. I don't know if I can get the money for it though. The next time I go there I need to look down the bore.

Those Maxi's are going to kick like two mules.

I load a 525 grain conical for my 50 caliber rifles. Recoil is not real bad unless you really stoke them up. A 70 or 80 grain charge will not be bad at all. I stoke mine up a good bit more than that for elk. And yes it does kick hard. But a standard load of 70 grains in the Big Boar will not be that bad. Tom.
