http://muzzleloadingbullets.com/remi...rsion_kit.html http://armurierlavaltrie.com/remkit.html This is the company in Canada that makes them in the first place. The other thing you might look at is the the conversion offered by derfhunter on Modern Muzzleloaders Forum... |
Sabotloader,
I was under the impression this gun has the 209 primer breach plug already with it.I was looking on brownells and they have a breach plug for sale is there a different nipple or plug for the breach plug? Thank You Jason |

Thank You Jason The Remington 209 conversion is terrible dirty. This Canadian Conversion is the better of the two. The Conversion that derfhunter makes might even be better. I even made a bolt conversion to make it more like a bolt and firing pin conversion rather than a plunger/hammer gun. http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/blac...onversion.html http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/blac...-700-farm.html Just a heads up... if the gun does not have the conversion hammer installed you will need to buy a kit. If you go with a Remington Conversion Kit - the hammer will not work with the Canadian nipple and vice versa.... |

Correct... the same breech plug is used for cap ignition and 209 ignition. You just swap out the different nipples.

Jason Which hammer is in the gun now a percussion hammer or a 209 hammer? http://www.trackofthewolf.com/Catego...71&styleID=785 You will need a 1/4" x 28 nipple. |

Jason When you get the gun - be sure and take the bolt apart and check the insides... If the owner did not do his maintenance it might be in tough shape. You are going to need to get a #11 capper... About the only way to get a hammer is buy a 209 kit - but do not buy a Remington Kit!!! |

You may have to replace the Remington hammer spring

Jason Here is a picture ![]() |
The Canadian 209 kit hammer has a forward faceing dimple in the center of it. I bought my kit for the 54 at Cabelas.
The #11 hammer is a cup on the end of the plunger. The # 11 works well as long as you take the time to take the bolt apart clean the spring and the insides. Use a dri slide type of lube as a oil will freeze in cold temps. This bolt take down tool is worth every penny of it's price. ![]() Another plus for this old muzzle loader is the trigger ajustment eaz. several places on the net explains the proper way to do it. :D Al |
Thats something i'd coat with dyna tek gun shield. Do around 4 coats, allow 45 minutes between coats and that fouling will wash right off without a brush. That stuff really shines on these older style guns.
