T7 and a PRB?

I'm thinking of messing around with a PRB in my Omega.

I'm thinking of using T7, because I have a few bottles, and I don't want to waste BH 209 or Swiss.

My question is.....Will I get a crud ring with a PRB?

MountainDevil54 05-09-2011 08:03 AM

try and let us know.

I'd use a wad between the patch/powder.

That is all I use at Rondy shoots with my Renegades, but I do use T7-2f. Using a #11 ignition will often not create a crud ring, depending on what might be in your bore.

At rondy events I shoot 80 grains in the 54 and 70 in the 50's and as FG suggested - I to use a treated wonder wad under the patch to ease the heat on the patch.

I do not get a crud ring...

Now that I think back. I did try T7 in my Hawken, and got a crud ring.

I thought maybe it was just from inlines using 209 primers, but that's not the case.

You don't have to sell me on the PRB. I've shot thousands of them. This was more of a powder question. I'll just give away the T7. I don't have a use for it in any of my guns.

HUH? Stubborn about what?

You said you didn't use T7 with the PRB, so what was I supposed to take from your post?

NO I DIDN'T:lolabove: T7 is all that I use, Put your danged glass on! it works great... for me - but I do have a couple of cans of GOEX that i carry around with me just in case.

Tie Breaker card shot with T7 and a .490 patched ball...

I got a better one but can not find it right now...

Seriously give it a try also use a regular #11 cap not the the #11 mag... and if that gives you a 'crud ring' then we will talk about what you treat your bore with:bash::bash::bash:

Muley Hunter 05-09-2011 09:07 AM

You edited your post you old fart.

Anyway, no matter.

btw I'm doing this in my Omega. No #11 caps involved.

Semisane 05-09-2011 09:14 AM

:s2::s2: Ain't nothing better than watching two old geezers slugging it out.

Oh! i never thought about shooting a PRB from a fast twist Omega, i know it can be done with reduced loads but you are really limited and with your regular sidelocks that you have available - i surely thought that was what you were looking at.

oh well who cares have fun!!!!

Watch out boys! The Depends are about to hit the fan

flounder33 05-09-2011 09:57 AM

Sabotloader wears the white hat.
I wish I knew somebody around here that would trade some black powder for the remaining bh209 I have. I don't have anything to shoot it out of even.

caplock 05-09-2011 07:36 PM

I shoot 777 out of my knight Bighorn all the time with #11 mag caps and have never had a crud ring, in fact I've shot 777 out of my TC Black Diamond with 209 ign. and have never had a crud ring, to be honest I've shot 777 for years out of lots of rifles and never had a crud ring? maybe it likes South Dakota air

I never shot 777 without having a crud ring. Them weaker primer, and them variflame helped some, but the crud ring was still there.

Muley Hunter 05-10-2011 04:36 AM

I have. Renegade with a PRB. :cool2:

Gm54-120 05-10-2011 05:36 AM

My old ThunderHawk 54 has almost no crud ring with reduced loads of T7. I say reduced because the twist is too fast for a hotter load. Last time out i loaded at least 5-6 shots with a wad then a PRB and never really felt the ring. This gun did have many years of use with BB though with Maxis plus a little BB on a felt wad. Iim really starting to think that had an effect.

The last outing was also with the 209 conversion and RemSTS and WinT7 primers. Using a cap i doubt there would have been any ring for many more shots.

onthefarm 05-11-2011 05:23 PM

I was shooting PRB's with 50gr and 35gr 2F Goex in my GPH with a 1/32 twist. I bet you would get same type of results.

I don't know if the SD air has anything to do with it. I live in the humid TN heat and I don't get it. Heck, I even use Rem Oil which has teflon in it which some people say causes it. Still none for me. :confused0024:

lemoyne 05-12-2011 05:28 AM

The ignition may have a lot to do with it, I have never heard of any one getting crud-ring with # 11 caps. I also don't know of any one that is able to use PRB with out using a wad to keep from blowing the patch.
