Well the 105 gr of BH209 shows some promise. Too bad you didn't try some gool old FFg black powder as another test. That's a lot of shooting for one day. Good report. Keep it up.

Are you thinking about hunting with that bullet Pluckit?

Omega45 05-03-2011 05:15 PM

Looks like your gun likes Blackhorn 209. Was that the JSG Super Powder? Looks like it grouped similar to when I tried it.

bronko22000,
I had some Goex with me but I never gave it a thought. That was a long shooting session as it was. After the last taget with Pyrodex and the second shot being a flier like that I kind of said that's going to be good enough with 2 out of three in the red.

Semisane,
Those were the discontinued Speer's I picked up not too long ago. I only have a few left so I won't be hunting with them. I was just having some fun playing with the different powders and shooting the Wolf. That's only the second time I've taken the Wolf to the range. So I wanted to spend some time with it, and that's the bullet I decided to go with to keep that part of the shoot consistent.

Omega45,
With the Blackhorn 209 on target #4 the aimpoint was the bulls eye.
On target 5 The aim point was adjusted to compensate for how high the Blackhorn was shooting. So I was aiming at the bottom of the target on #5. And yes, that was the Jim Shokey's Gold Super powder. I felt when I seated the bullet on that powder that you could really feel the powder compress a lot. Maybe A person needs a better way to gauge the seating pressure than just guessing like I did.
The one thing I found about the powder was how little fouling there was. It seemed to burn very clean.

There are some real good groups there. I have some of them 225 grain and 270 grain Speer bullets. They are good shooters for the most part. I will have to break them out and shoot off some.

Were you swabbing the barrel almost clean between powder changes? I have found that it makes a difference in the shots. Good range report there.

For all powders accept for the Blackhorn 209, I cleaned the bore after every shot. And I'm sure you know, that makes for a long range session. For the blackhorn 209, I cleaned the bore after each new target was put up.
