Washatonian @ the Farm...

Steve drove over today for his first experiance shooting an inline muzzleloader. He brought with him is new Knight MHC to start wringing that new gun out.

We did an initial cleaning and lubing here on te gun loaded up the gear and headed to the farm.

I loaded up the first round for him. We set a target at 25 yards, hoping that we would be on the paper... Actually I had checked here with a laser bore sighter and thought it was close.

He loaded the next bunch shots himself and kept punching holes. We did not try to move the factory sights as he will be changing them to a different sight soon.

We had also taken a couple of my guns that were sighted in to shoot also as I wanted hime to shoot a Williams FP sight and the second gun a DISC Elite with a scope. Both of these guns were thumbholes.

Here is a few pictures of the adventures....

You can see the paper got boring so I placed clay pigeons out at different ranges and elevations... I think Steve really liked shooting them. You can see in the bottom right picture he was shooting a 60 yard bird and when the smoke cleared the out line of the bird was still there.... His first words..."I can not believe I missed that bird!!!" I looked at it with the glasses and said Steve you didn't miss you shot the center of the bird out and just the rim remains standing... He was much happier with that report.
I do believe he might now be hooked on shooting ML's and I am thinking that a regular pisto grip stock is not going to work for him - he really likes the thumbholes.....

It was a good day....

cayugad 04-07-2011 06:11 PM

cayugad

I believe he is... he even called on the way out of town and asked if he should stop a Tri-State and look over the ML supplies... I am really curious if he bought if anything.

The other thing that happend we were shooting 50's and then we/he shot a 45 DISC Elite and one of his comments... I gotta get one of these... and that was after the statement... I am not going to get these pistol grips stocks Camo'ed gotta get a couple of thumbholes....

cayugad 04-07-2011 07:34 PM

You are a terrible influence on these new shooter... congratulations.:happy0001:

Washatonian 04-07-2011 08:39 PM

WTB two Thumbhole stocks for Knight disc extreme

flounder33 04-08-2011 04:30 AM

Washatonian, you are hooked now!
I wish you luck in finding the Thumbhole stocks, it could be tough.

Omega45 04-08-2011 04:39 AM

Hard to go back to shooting a regular stock once you have shot a TH, atleast for me it is. Guess thats why 3 of my muzzys have TH's now.

Gm54-120 04-08-2011 07:29 AM

SEE SEE SEE, i told you he is a bad influence. :p

Once you shoot an Elite 45, all the rest are more like inventory. From now on you will judge all other mass production MLs against the Elite. Adding a TH stock is fairly easy and man they do feel good. It is by far one of the most fun to shoot.

He knew EXACTLY what he was doing by letting that poor guy shoot it. :D

Many sleepless nights and hours of searching the auction sights will surely follow. Luckily i still know where to get a NIB blued Elite 45 for $249 and it may ease his suffering.

This Prayer help

The Knight DISCs are my rifles. I shall not want.
They maketh my groups shrink at the range and leadth me beyond mediocre shooters.
They restoreth my soul. They leadth me to the range for funs sake. Yeah though i shoot at the
range with cheaper imports, i shall fear no break action, for Green Mountain art with me. Thy Timney trigger
and American craftsmanship, they comfort me. Thou preparest the hunt before me through your Williams sights.
Thou annointest my barreled action with stainless and protect my primers all over. Surely DRTs and sub MOAs
shall follow me all the days of my life and i will dwell in the house of Knight forever.

Scott... another one bites the DUST.... I think Chet got that gun... 45's are so fun!!!

Gm54-120 04-08-2011 10:54 AM

Yep, he did.

My job is done here. :D Another older NIB Knight is going to a good home that will enjoy it. It being an Elite 45 is even more satisfying. I wish more people would try a 45cal so companies would invest more into some R&D. They are the only thing holding back a better selection of bullets and sabots.

IMO they are more fun to shoot and plenty for deer sized game.

flounder33 04-08-2011 11:14 AM

Chet is in the running for the Muzzleloading Rifle Hoarders Award for this year.
Congrats Chet

I just realized that the Elites are not part of the new Knight lineup, oops, I might have to start looking for a TH .45 Elite!

SJAdventures 04-08-2011 05:07 PM

And the addiction begins.

Gm54-120 04-08-2011 05:26 PM

Washatonian

I dont think they ever offered a Elite with a TH but its not hard to put one in a Extreme TH. Fully bed the stock at the same time or add another pillar and you have a near custom quality rifle.

I shoot a lot just for fun and a TH 45 is a cream puff to shoot (usually). IMO the more fun it is, the more likely you are to practice. I wasn't sure if i would like it for hunting but i loved it on my carbine last year.
