Welcome to the site.

What part of Mass are you from? I was born and brought up in Springfield.

urban wolf 04-05-2011 07:12 AM

20 Miles west of Boston.
A small town called Acton.

cayugad 04-05-2011 07:15 AM

welcome to the forum. Good to have you here.

urban wolf 04-05-2011 07:23 AM

Glad to be here.
Looking forward to getting my 1st black powder rifle.
Limited funds, any suggestions?

Muley Hunter 04-05-2011 07:27 AM

Give us a price range.

Do you want an older style sidelock, or a modern inline?

The inline will be more user friendly for someone new.

urban wolf 04-05-2011 07:32 AM

$200 is about all I can do right now.
Might have to get a used one.

Muley Hunter 04-05-2011 07:38 AM

Used will get you a better gun. You have a few options new. Some will recommend the CVA Wolf. They sell for under $200. I'd rather see you get a TC gun. The TC Impact is a nice gun to start off with, but it's $250.

See what the other guys say here. They might have some used guns for sale. Check the classified section here too.

Welcome. I just puchased a Knight Vision from The Sportsmans Guide. They are offering free shipping or $20.00 off coupons right now. I can't tell you how good it shoots because it's in the mail and on it's way to me. But I haven't read any bad reviews on it. The lowest cost model without a scope is $169.97 before any discounts or shipping.

urban wolf 04-05-2011 08:00 AM

Thanks,
I will check out TC and Knight Vision.
Problem is that Sportsmans Guide will not ship to Massachusetts.
Guns or Broad heads and most Knives.

arcticap 04-05-2011 08:03 AM

Check out Bass Pro in Foxborough, MA which is only 41 miles away from Acton. Then you can shoulder and inspect a variety of rifles. Don't forget to read their local circulars online in the right hand column of the Foxborough store webpage below.

Semisane 04-05-2011 08:53 AM

Welcome to the group UrbanWolf. Does your interest lean toward inlines or sidelocks? Do you plan to hunt with it, or shoot targets and plink?

urban wolf 04-05-2011 10:15 AM

Thanks Arcticap for the link, I will check it out.I have to go with the inline, Massachusetts law.
Semisane, I plan to hunt .Thanks for the welcome.

I don't think Mass has a law against sidelocks. It's the other way around in some states. (no 209 inlines)

Rogo 04-05-2011 02:20 PM

Neither the Wolf or the Impact are legal in Massachusetts. No breakopen actions are allowed there. Check the Mass laws before you buy any gun because they have some screwy laws in Mass.

Muley Hunter 04-05-2011 02:25 PM

So, he'd be ok with an Omega. Out of his price range a bit.

Mass always had screwy laws. That's why I left.

builder459 04-05-2011 03:00 PM

Welcome pilgrim, to the best M/L site on the web.i posted the laws for your state for you to look at.http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbu...-massachusetts since your cash allowance is low and before you consider buying used here is a lil gem of a inline that appears to be legal, since it not a hinged inline. all for about $170 shipped to your door. i personally own one and can verify there are built like a tank, with one of the best barrels you can buy in the M/L world and extremely accurate with saboted bullets or full bore conicals...oldenglishoutfitters.com." Knight wolverine" have fun and when you but a rifle come back and everyone here will get you set up to use it. Ray

WOOD, i was also going to suggest the wolf as a alternative. problem is he can't use any m/L that opens with a hinge.i shot a wolf and for the price there a nice lil rifle. still not up to the quality of the lil Wolverine, but a nice entry level rifle ans a bit easier to clean. Ray

Hey wolf welkies ! , I did here that T/C impact was a pretty good deal , but as it is most m/l are pretty good these days , my suggestion would buy what u like and can afford , and it should be a great shooter , good luc :arms:

It's a strange design. The barrel doesn't pivot on the receiver.

What the hell is Mass thinking with that law?

Dunno, but i wouldn't chance buying a Omega unless i knew for certain it was legal there. which leaves the guy with 2 choices a plunger style gun or a sidelock. that is why i suggested the Knight wolverine for $150 plus $17 shipping NIB. very well made stocks and Green mountain barrels, hard to go wrong.accurate and reliable to boot, with saboted bullets or conicals. the one i have was the best $150 i ever spent.. Welcome to the family, urban wolf.

Good to have you here. :sign0016:

Welcome, Urban Wolf.

Are plunger fire inlines are legal in MA? A very good accurate gun for the money is the CVA BuckHorn.

urban wolf 04-06-2011 03:42 AM

Thank you all for the welcome and the advice.
One thing we can agree on is that Massachusetts gun laws suck.
Like I said before, im looking forward to learning alot. Soon as I get my rifle I will post a pic.

onetohunt 04-06-2011 03:55 AM

Welcome and enjoy!!

What i read was hinge type rifles are not leagal. didnt mention any other.the Knight wolverine for $150 NIB is a steal and far better quality than the buckhorn. Ray
